So this is your average farming Sim like Harvest Moon and Stardew Valley, but far more like the original Harvest Moon that you would play on an emulator, complete with tool bar and pixel characters. You are the only farmer in all the world that can save this kingdom from famine. Cos there are literally no other farmers and this is the tiniest kingdom ever.
At first I thought this was a charming little game, that kids could play, simple and easy to navigate, but I found more cons than pros for it and they were as follows.
Pros:
1 The Game follows the convention of farming games, you know what to expect. Go to the store, buy turnips, make money, upgrade tools. There are mines to get ore to upgrade and its all heavily watered down,
2 You get a dragon!
3 Mining is super easy, compared to other farming games, theres monsters in the mines but you can avoid them grab iron and bounce.
4 The graphics are nice to look at. The veggies are cute and the dragon does his own thing for literally all of spring.
5 It promises to be a good few hours of time sink for the price.
The Cons:
1 As soon as I started I ran over to my dragon and found I wasn't able to talk to him or pet him or pick him up or do anything. As I figured out the controls, this didn't change. I would have liked a little intro as to why I get a dragon in the first place and how he's supposed to help me. And I want to name him!
2 The character doesn't have a run function. I kept hitting shift hoping my slowpoke character would break into a run instead of slowly walk across the world, this made the game seem a tad slower. Leasurely isn't bad but it would have been nice to run if I could.
3 I'm a farming perfectionist. So when I laid down a tile of farm plot that was inconsistent with my rows, there was no way to delete it. It was an eyesore all through spring. Similarly, I found that you can have a perfect row of veggies and then one random veggie thats completely misalligned. I didn't get to test this theory out because I was distracted by other things but its another thing my perfect farming didn't like. But it makes me wonder if the crops as a whole could be fit together tighter in the field and if it makes a difference somehow. I doubt it tho.
4The save button isn't obvious. I clicked escape and all I saw was the return to menu button which i clicked. This would have made me lose all my progress EXCEPT: Steam did an update and it crashed my game before I even found the save file icon. It only appears when you exit the exit screen. Makes no sense.
5 Never fear, I can just restart right? So I make a new game, its only been three hours of playing, and I'm not in a rush. Except I'm going to find the save button first. I finally locate it and save the game. Then I log out and click 'continue' to go back to the game to make sure its working. It does! Except it doesn't. Now I'm back in my game and some of my tools dont work. The axe doesn't want to chop trees and the pick doesn't want to break rocks. The hoe works and I have a neat line of turnips watered on screen.
So I log off. And in again. I sleep for a day, None of it works. I close the game and try again, loading my game. Nope. Still not working.
So I make a new game. Brand new toon. And yet... it logs me into the previous game. Complete with neat row of turnips. I try again, closing the game without saving, loging on and Creating another new character. AAAAAnd it still logs me into the same character with row of turnips.
So I'm at a loss now. I can't play the game because the tools won't function, and I can't make a new character because the game won't function, and the only thing I can think of is uninstalling the game and reinstalling it to try again. Problem is. I don't know that that will not happen again.
So in conclusion:
I want to like this game. But it is in need of some bug checks that is currently making it unplayable for me. I could happily sink a few hours into this game but it won't let me, so I'm glad I only spent like $5. I'm sad that I didn't get to raise the dragon....
Oh wait! One other thing
6 I went from Spring having a white baby dragon, to Summer and suddenly had a green dragon. Whats that about??
Anyway. I look forward to this game if/when the creators fix the bugs and make a few changes. Until then, I'm stuck.
