1/2 Red Riding Hood Reviews
There is this girl known as the Red Riding Hood. She has the strength of ten men. This is a completely different story about the familiar fairy-tale character Red Riding Hood. A much darker and twisted version.

1/2 Red Riding hood is a charming platformer that's at its best when it's luring you into its fairytale-adjacent style world and serving you with problems that require increasingly more exploration and thought. I was enchanted by the game's art style and atmosphere, and pleasantly surprised when weird and wonderful characters (sometimes *big* characters) were incorporated into the level design.
Speaking of design, I liked the progression at which new concepts are introduced to the player, and I found the game to be a very smooth experience because of it. Some degree of problem solving is required, but the answers are never more than a few screens away. The map and world design is also interesting because the same areas are used for different sections of the game, but become disconcertingly unfamiliar as certain parts are rearranged and reordered.
The keyboard inputs were a little too close together for my liking initially, but once I got used to them I found they worked quite well.
Overall, a fun, sometimes creepy, and flowing platformer / Metroidvania experience.

In a nutshell, if this were made in a different engine, it could've been something special. Creating 1/2 Red Riding Hood in RPG Maker unfortunately resulted in far more limitations for the game, which is an interesting blend of a 2D Platformer with action combat and bullet hell mechanics. The story is a twisted retelling of the Little Red Riding Hood fairytale, with some player choices towards the end of the game altering the story, with 4 different endings available.
Many game ideas feel underutilised, like being able to push or pick up objects, or even the special mage-slayer weapon, leaving you with a feeling of missed opportunity.
I congratulate the dev on what they have achieved here, but sadly due to the floaty controls and maze-like level design, this is going to be a hard sell to all but the most dedicated RPG Maker fans. Worth a look if you're curious, but only if you can grab it on sale for a couple of dollars.

There's so many issues with this game, but I can't get over the fact that I've never seen anything like this. I've played with RPG maker for a little bit and doing a platformer like this has never crossed my mind before.
I would say, keep a RPGMaker file editor nearby if you get softlocked or the game is too difficult. I did get softlocked in one of my runs and decided to cheat and refill my health to get back my save file for example. After doing about 5 runs though (more like 17~ if you include going back to the start of a zone since exits are janky and you can easily reach the end of a zone and exist back to the begining of multiple screens)
At the end of the day though, I'm still impressed and went for all endings + shards eventually. The game is short, the controls are janky, but it's an experience I've not had before.
