Completed the achievements, had a chill time and the writing made me chuckle a fair bit. Decent enough story and easy gameplay, though I did run into a few glitches that made me have to alt F4. The game really is best when you go through all the character story lines. Also PSA: Don't forget to talk to Hitoshi on your island when he shows up there next to the pool chair!

I love a fishing game.
This one has a few awkward moments right at the beginning, but once you get the hang of it, the fishing part is a good balance of relaxing and exciting. The quests and sub-quests (for making friends) are balanced to encourage you to do both in order to keep upgrading your skill & pole.
I'm not entirely sure about the plot yet since I haven't finished it. Some of the characters are genuinely bullies, and hopefully that will come back to them. There are decent themes of self esteem, resilience, perseverance, trying to find a balance between honoring tradition while making space for those who don't fit in, and how each person might have a very different idea of what "heaven" might be.
Generally, I give this game a thumbs up. I recommend trying out the demo to see if it feels right for you!

Story-driven fishing game with cute graphics and a lovely soundtrack. The fishing itself is very simple so you're not getting any deep gameplay on that front. I hear it's on the shorter side but I have yet to beat it. I think it would overstay its welcome if it was padded beyond the 10 hours treshold by too much. There's not enough going on in the gameplay department to justify it going on for much longer.
The story is interesting and you get attached to the characters. I'd say it's the main appeal of the game.

Fishing Paradiso is a delightful surprise that blends simple fishing mechanics with heartfelt storytelling in a way that’s unexpectedly powerful. At first glance, it seems like a casual pixel-art fishing game—but stick with it, and you’ll find a relaxing, emotionally rich adventure that explores themes of friendship, loss, and healing.
You play as a recently departed soul who finds themselves in a vibrant, dreamlike afterlife where fishing becomes the key to progress, connection, and self-discovery. Each new fishing spot unlocks more story, quirky characters, and upgrades that slowly expand your little slice of heaven. The game masterfully balances a laid-back pace with just enough RPG-like progression to keep you hooked (pun intended).
The pixel art is charming and full of personality, while the soundtrack is soothing and perfectly matches the tranquil atmosphere. It’s not a mechanically deep game—you’re not going to find complex fishing sims here—but that’s the point. Fishing Paradiso is about slowing down, reflecting, and connecting.
Best of all, the game respects your time. Sessions can be short and sweet, yet it keeps drawing you back with new story beats and discoveries. It’s cozy, comforting, and, dare I say, emotionally nourishing.
Pros:
Cozy gameplay with satisfying progression
Beautiful pixel art and relaxing music
Surprisingly moving story and characters
Easy to pick up, hard to put down
Great for unwinding
Cons:
Gameplay can feel repetitive if you are not into the chill loop
Limited challenge; not for players seeking depth or intensity
TL;DR
A cozy, story-rich fishing game that quietly sneaks up on your heart. Come for the fishing, stay for the emotional journey. Perfect for fans of relaxing, narrative-driven indie games.

it’s a visual novel with a very rudimentary fishing game attached to it. the art is great, the sound and music are inoffensive. the dialog is the usual pop-japanese trash, with lots of characters muttering to themselves and throwing ellipses around, but it mostly doesn’t get in the way of the story. it’s fine! it’s cute. there are more upgrades than there should be, and if you’re a completist you’ll spend another hour or two grinding them out after having seen everything in the game.
so: it’s a weak, hesitant recommendation, but still a recommendation!

11.7 hours to 100% the game. Prioritize tension if the meter is filling to fast and your line is breaking.
