Nice lil puzzle game. Never gets TOO hard but there are some challenging levels strewn about. WORTH IT!!

I don't love or hate this game. Puzzle games lose my interest the moment I have to lookup a solution. If you can't handle getting stuck often, don't buy this game.

Quick Description:
-Gardener's Path is a mini puzzle game w/ snappy controls and a really slick visual style. This game kind of reminds me Red Ronin or Keen One Girl Army but unfortunately, I don't think is nearly as good as either. This game only costs $4, but there is actually some pretty steep competition at this price point. There are 60 total puzzles and most players will clear everything in 2-3 hrs. I decided to call it quits at the 56th level. While this game doesn't have any major issues, it has quite a few small problems that really hurt my overall gaming experience.
Consensus:
-Bottom Shelf Gaming (Tier 5 and makes up 10% of my reviews). There is no undo button, the keybindings only offer 3 options and all 3 feel a bit odd for a game like this (It never tells you on screen what buttons do which based on your key settings). The game looks really slick but it feels like it chose style over functionality, which I think was a mistake. Even when I turned the sound effects way down, they still felt incredibly jarring every time I died. Keen One Girl Army, Logic Light, Upaon a Snakes Journey, Lyne, and Gravifire are all games that range from $2-$5, and offer either better value or feel more polished. For those reasons, I can't recommend this game.

Amazing game! The soundtrack is super chill and the gameplay is perfectly balanced regarding difficulty. The game itself is also challenging for gamers in general, but with the option to skip levels for the more casual players.

Gardener's Path is a short and relaxing puzzle game with chill music and beautiful graphics. The protagonist is a gardener who must defeat the insects that are destroying the underground gardens, as these gardens are essential for human survival after the planet became unable to produce enough oxygen to sustain life.
To complete a stage, the player must destroy all the insects and reach a crystal, while avoiding the cacti that might hurt them. The player "dies" if they hit a cactus and the stage is restarted. The game contains 60 stages and new mechanics are gradually introduced, with difficulty escalating for each new mechanic introduced. There are a couple of different insects, plants and artifacts, each one with its own unique gimmick, that adds complexity to the gameplay. The gameplay is fast-paced and the player can quickly restart a stage, a very welcome aspect for those who suffer with slow-paced games. An option to skip a stage after failing it too many times also exists, allowing the player to enjoy the rest of the game if they get stuck and come back later to the ones they skipped. As the player completes the stages and collects special fruits, they unlock new colors for the protagonist and pages in the logbook containing information about insects. There are some minor UI issues that could be improved in my opinion, but nothing major that affects the overall experience.
Recommended for anyone looking for a chill puzzle game with interesting mechanics.

Took my smooth brain ~100 mins to wrap it up, very good feel and creative level designs - its like a fast paced ChuChu Rocket from the Gameboy Advance era with better graphics. Very clean experience, no technical issues or game-play repetitiveness, did not overstay it's welcome.

A short but very sweet puzzle game
The gameplay is very simple, move in 4 directions to reach the end. But it never feels tiring or repetitive as you are being introduced to new gameplay mechanics every 5 levels or so. It might feel like you are being thrown new stuff at you too often but the level design is very well-made, which makes you understand every mechanic very easily.
The puzzles are good, they never felt too hard but some of them really required you to think. It might be a little inconsistent where you can get stuck on one level for 10 minutes but beat the next level in first try. Luckily there is a skip option so you are never forced to complete a level to unlock the next one. In general there is a lot of trial and error, but very quick restarts doesn’t make this annoying in any way.
The graphics and music is amazing, it was the graphics that got me to buy this game to begin with. One of the best pixel art games I have seen, even though it’s not much to look at its something about the whole setting. I like that there are 4 different styles the further you get into the game. And the music is great, plenty of tracks, and they all fit very well.
The only downside to this game is the length and difficulty, I did it in around 80 minutes and there is no extra content once you done all the levels. Not even the achievements bring you an extra challenge. It would be fun with more, harder levels and challenges. Maybe even a level editor.
It’s very cheap so definitely worth the money.

gardener's path is a short sliding game with great pixel graphics and music, but pretty bad execution otherwise. it starts in a very small resizable window every time and you have to sit through or skip the pretty but very loud intro, again, every time, with slow, typewriter-like text display, accompanied by annoying sounds. then it switches to full screen if that's how you left it, but accessing the settings should come before any lengthy cutscene, skippable or not.
the story is about a girl, gardener by trade, trying to protect her village and the underground gardens from giant insects. there's a bunch of dialog throughout the game with the same annoyances as the intro, but a press of a specific key (because why would enter, space or esc do anything) shows the whole sentence immediately.
60 levels in 4 environments, level numbers only on the level select screen (with a lot of tedious left/right scrolling if you want to replay them) and in the pause menu. the whole thing should take about 2 hours or so, as most stages are relatively easy, but the game lets you skip a level and come back later after failing it a few times.
gameplay-wise it's your average sliding game, no timer or move limit, but annoying real-time element near the end. this isn't the first (or second) game claiming to be turn-based and those shouldn't have shenanigans like this. on the last 10 or so levels you can 'turn off' some plants for better visibility and they come back after 3 seconds instead of after the next move. mazes are bad enough, made even worse if they're coupled with a memory game and level reset.
otherwise move in four directions, avoid cacti for obvious reasons, use sunflowers to get pushed around because they're famous for their bounciness, use other plants as teleporters and gates. bump into insects to deal 1 damage and open the path to the exit crystal once they're all dead. if you pick up a weapon, it'll auto-kill sturdier foes in one hit (as do cacti). bumping into an enemy from the adjacent tile won't do anything, but sunflowers still work, a bit of inconsistency for fun... there's also a poisoned skull to use when available, it can deal with multiple nearby insects.
dying immediately resets the level and there's no undo. often a dealbreaker on its own, but it's only one of the many issues here. you can find a so-called time jewel on certain levels, but that's just part of the puzzle to take you back to an earlier position as the next step, not to rectify a wrong player input without having to start over.
keyboard and controller are both supported, no mouse or logical keybindings, you can change them but it won't help much. by default arrows move, wasd doesn't work, 'z' is select, enter doesn't work, 'x' is skip/return, esc doesn't work. when will developers realize that keyboard and controller aren't the same, so stop ruining keyboard controls by making them imitate a gamepad.
rebinding is always useful, but in this case it doesn't work properly. defaults are shown even if you change them to something else, can't set alternatives, so it's still arrows or wasd, not both, for instance, and the keys for using in-game items double as select and exit in the menus. god forbid you had separate ones for very different functions. again, it's not a controller, there are 100+ keys on a fucking keyboard, use them.
further settings, only available from the main menu (another shortcoming), include languages, separate volumes, a full screen toggle for a resizable window, but there's no proper full screen, window manipulation icons are always visible in the corner. this might only affect win7 users (or just me), as other games using the same engine(?) behave similarly. there's a logbook with stats and lore to unlock as you run into new plants, insects and artifacts, always nice. your appearance can also be changed by unlocking various skins.
sadly, it's the usual style over functionality schtick. looks great, works well enough in some areas, not so well or at all in others. it went half off a month after release but even that's too much at this point. if it ever gets patched and starts working as it should, not just look and sound pretty, I'll edit the review.
