This game is a case of some extremely well implemented ideas that are constricted to the point of FEELING bad by a couple of limiting gameplay decisions. Fleet combat? Awesome. Explosions? Feel JUST right. Piloting fighters or capital ships? SO much fun.
The problem that kneecaps this game VERY unnecessarily is the combo of fleet cap points, fleet SIZE points, and the way experience is handled as you 'progress' through the systems. You can grind out some missions (and I do mean grind because it's a fair few missions to get another level) in a sector until you hit a new level, only to find out that whole LEVEL rewarded you with just one fleet cap point. You can buy a small fighter, or maybe shift from a medium cruiser to a slightly medium-er cruiser, but then you're back to the grind again.
The balance in this regard is just a little off. As a result, you tend to take the missions that maximise the experience you're going to get to try and minimise the time it takes to grow a cooler fleet, but THAT means you keep picking the same missions which adds to the monotony.
It's compounded by the decision to make previous sectors worth LESS experience once you hit certain level milestones. Why not just make the subsequent sectors worth MORE to encourage progression rather than punishing hanging out at old ones? I know that in terms of progression it is literally the same thing, but it might just FEEL better.
The combined effect of these decisions keeps a player in the STRESS zone where their fleet is juuuuuuust maybe good enough to tackle the missions it forces you to stay at with just the occasional ship loss. There's no chance to get a big upgrade and feel powerful and stomp around a sector a little, no real chance to feel progression in terms of a difficult task becoming much easier. I think in the name of prolonging the gameplay or keeping the 'challenge', the game has missed out on some big potential for FUN.
Side note : A single missile hitting a ship and disabling every turret on it for a big chunk of a fight feels awful.

there are still some issues. I would like to be able to select multiple missions at the same time. it is pretty simple game. I want to see more tech than is avalible at chapter two. and more ships etc... but over all it is fun. I want to see where it goes from here
