I've tried just about everything to get this game to recognize that my "Face of the Franchise" character is a WR and not a QB. For some reason, after a successful reinstall, it will default to a QB position rating, but lock me in game as a WR. I really don't understand how this game could mess up one of the best features about sports games: playing a designated role and becoming a superstar. Started my franchise, customized my character, played preseason, leveled up my WR rating. A day passes, i boot up, load into the next season game, and I'm the QB now?? my WR save is nowhere to be found? My rating is back to the default. I've tried this loop just about 3 times now and spent 25 hours of my life trying to figure out what could possibly be corrupting the save. My eye is twitching.

Madden NFL 23 makes some noticeable improvements, but it still feels like the series is stuck running the same old playbook. The new FieldSense system brings more realistic animations and player movement, making the on-field action feel smoother than past entries. Franchise mode gets some much-needed tweaks, like improved free agency and scouting, but it’s still not the deep, immersive experience fans have been begging for. Ultimate Team remains the moneymaker, packed with content but heavily geared toward microtransactions, making progression feel like a grind if you’re not willing to spend extra cash.
Where Madden 23 stumbles is in its legacy issues—bugs, inconsistent AI, and recycled presentation elements that make it feel more like a yearly roster update than a true evolution. Franchise players will likely appreciate the small steps forward, but outside of gameplay refinements, there’s little here that justifies another full-price purchase. If you skipped last year’s game, this one might be worth picking up on sale. But if you were hoping for a game-changing Madden experience, you might find yourself punting this one to the sideline.
