WitchSpring 3 Re:Fine EXTRA CONTENTS DLC

I saw that there weren't any English reviews so here is mine for this DLC. As much as I love this game, for what this DLC gives it is not worth at all. $20 is a bit much for a PDF file as the artbook and the songs just being a plus to it. To even access these DLC contents you need to open the local game files and you'll see a file for the extra content called WS3R EXTRA CONTENTS. Opening the file will give you two options: another file that has all the music in MP3 form and the other option being the artbook that sends you to your browser and opens as a PDF. They don't even mention how to even view this stuff. I spent a few hours running around in game looking for a new interactable assuming that the DLC was viewable in-game. The actual contents of the artbook are cool but I was expecting more concept art for the rest of the characters and not just Eirudy. Overall I would only recommend this if the price dropped to $10.

Since the other review does not depict accurate review (struggling with Steam UX and how to open PDF), I will give a proper un-bias review as a huge fan of the series. ========================================== Background First of all, this is a DLC, a Downloadable Content. DLC does not necessarily means extension to the game, or something to do in-game. It's just a Downloadable Content. It clearly says that this DLC contains the digital version of the art book and the game's OST. Note that Kiwiwalks has a merch store on https://en.mostore.co.kr/category/witch-spring/95/. Unfortunately, the physical copy of Witchspring 3 Artbook is gone for 2 reasons. First, it's simply sold out. Second, there was a huge drama regarding plagiarism by one of the illustrator (which has been terminated from Kiwiwalks). The reason this "Steam/Switch version" exists is to renew Witchspring 3 with the brand new, non-plagiarized arts (it used to be a mobile game). Kiwiwalks almost collapse due to this drama, but fortunately there are a lot of support from the fans as well, especially from the foreigners. They publish Witchspring 4, where you can still purchase the merch in the store; and Witchspring R, their brand new game (which you definitely MUST buy and experience it by yourself). Kiwiwalks is now in a safe zone, and I encourage you all to keep supporting them. This series is truly a passion project of Kiwiwalks. If you purchase the Switch version, Collector's Edition, you will receive extra merch as well, including the physical copy of the art book and physical CD of the soundtrack. Unfortunately, I don't know if the art book is the same as the one in this DLC. I also don't have a Switch. =============================== Let's talk about the content of this DLC and how worth each item is. Note that this DLC costs 10 USD and I purchased it during a 30% off sale. Here are my personal opinion. 1. 40 pages art book (in Japanese only). Generally, a physical copy of art book of 40 pages (including tax and customs) are 50 USD in my country (Indonesia). While I love collecting physical book, I don't really have the space to store the book. I'm fine with digital copies. About the language, I'm not bothered with it because all of my other physical art books are in Japanese as well. I can't read Japanese too (usually I'll just use Google Lens and Google Translate), but mostly I'm just enjoying the arts. 2. OST in mp3 files. I love Witchspring's OST (and I already purchased the Witchspring R's OST DLC). For years, the only way for me to listen to the OSTs were from a pirated upload to YouTube. As a musician myself, I really appreciate the composer and I want to purchase the albums legally. Currently, this DLC is the best way for me to do that. I do wish that the OSTs are in lossless. As you can see, I am glad to pay 7 USD for the OST. The fact that I also get the art book is an absolute bargain. =============================== Comparison to Witchspring R's OST DLC You will get the OSTs in lossless and it works with Steam music player (although it's impractical to use it). You also get a special interview with the music director (in several languages, including English), talking about the inspiration in making the OSTs. As you can see, the Witchspring R's OST DLC is more "worth it" compared to this DLC. The reason is simple. First, Kiwiwalks is getting used to Steam and PC games. Second, they have a discord server where Kiwiwalks is pretty active interacting with the worldwide fans. This is a huge difference to the Witchspring 3 era, especially when they are mainly a mobile game company. ================================== Conclusion Is it worth it? Yes, of course it is worth it. It's art, and it's only 7 USD. You might felt that 7 USD is very expensive, because these are just a bunch of files. However, behind these files, there are a lot of passion. I'm not talking about million dollars painting, 7 USD is an absolute bargain here. If you thing 7 USD is too much money, then safe it and take care of yourself first. At the end, art is luxury no matter how much it costs. I'm just glad that I have the money to spend and it's just a small appreciation to the developers. ================================= Accessing the file If you are struggling to find the DLC files: 1. Find your Steam directory (where you install it, probably in drive C) 2. If you are lazy like me, just search "Witchspring 3" or "Witch Spring 3". You'll easily find it. 3. The actual name of the folder is "WS3R EXTRA CONTENTS". If you are struggling to open a PDF file... it's weird because any browser can open it.
