It tries to simplify Football Manager but it makes it to simple, very little in the way of stats, clunky menu. I'm rather play Championship Manager 97/98. 5 out 10

Bought this game as it looked unloved and left to gather dust in the corner of steam. Its an ok game, clearly not updated forever and left to rot. There are some bugs, some inconsistency with the figures, such as budgets no matching up, one screen says my first team should have a min of 25 players, another says 30. Interface is the same interface used in other games by this developer such as rugby union, league and the boxing manager. The other games interfaces have been updated slightly and this one has been left behind.
Overall its not a bad game, its no football manager and the 2d match engine is a waste of time, can set it slow or fast. Pretty pointless really.
However I can see some fun being had out of this game but not a lot, needs more work but unfortunately it does not look like its going to get it, so I put it in the abandoned category, and for that reason I can only mark it as negative review.
Might pick it up and play a little more but probably not.

ok for early access not got the premier league and making subs can be frustrating a few times i tried to change my goal keeper but it would not let me so when i tried to change a forward to replace another 1 it changed the goalkeeper for the forward with no way to cancel it so i played 2nd half with a forward in goal, played a few hours but got bored with this. no way of knowing what to do for the best, and sick to death of the stupid message you lost changing my opinion same for a win same for a draw, It may get better but i would not recommend this game in its present state over complicated menus to go through, if i wanted that sort of detail i would have bought championship manager 22. If it changes for the better then ill change my post but dont waste your money

Do you miss Ultimate Soccer Manager '98? Have you been looking for a great game with all of those features, a game that's immersive and gives you total control of your club? So have I. But I've stopped looking...
BECAUSE SOCCER BOSS IS IT!!!!!!!
No unnecessary twaddle -- no cute prelude animations in which you have to meet every person on the staff one by one. If someone needs to tell you something, you get an e-mail.
Close to EVERYTHING is statted out for you. All players have a large number of ratings so you can make informed decisions, and the interface is so clean (and colorful) that you DON'T get swamped by the stats. Matches are top-down and easy to follow, with NO annoying repetitive play-by-play, allowing me to do the annoying repetitive play-by-play announcing myself. (You can even skip the match play and just get the results if you wish.)
The game is close to perfect. One caveat -- if you have never played a statistical soccer sim before, this is NOT your starting point. While there is some guidance in the form of a *very* limited tutorial, there is no documentation.
One thing that might be a turn-off to some is that all of the players are fictional. I did NOT find this to be an impediment; believe it or not, it makes the game more realistic. In some other soccer sims, you'll right away look to acquire Pele, Maradona, Beckham, Messi, etc., because you already know who the great players are. In Soccer Boss you'll need to figure out not only who the greats *are* but which players may *become* greats (Soccer Boss has a stat for training potential to help you find the young players who are worth the time/money investment).
To reiterate, if you're looking for the replacement for Ultimate Soccer Manager '98, THIS IS IT!!!
10/10
ADDENDUM: The programmer, sadly, has passed away. The only thing that's missing in Soccer Boss is the ability to make small tactical position changes, that is, to instruct a player to play slightly back or slightly to the center of the pitch, etc. That can't be added now, but this is still an OUTSTANDING game regardless.
