I want to love this, I really do, and I do not necessarily resent spending the money if it leads for them to have the budget to further develop the game in newer incarnations. As it is right now though? God damn it is awful.
I cannot and do not really intend to comment on the engine and the logic of how the game runs because in reality I cannot get past my roster without throwing my hands up in utter despair at the level this game is pitched it.
So, why do I consider it so fundamentally bad ? It is the interplay between stats and positions, or simply, the lack thereof.
Every single player in the fame only has a few stats Strength, Agility, Intelligence, Arm, Accuracy, Tackling, Speeds, Hands, Endurance, Pass Blocking, Run Blocking, Kick Accuracy and Kick Distance... that is it... In this stat block it in some way defines what a good receiver is? A good CB? A good anything? Essentially stats and a "good" player is defined by how high these numbers are overall, not really weighted toward positional needs.
Then we get to positions, they are pathetically basic. You have the basic positions in any NFL roster but that is it. DO you have outside, slot, possession receivers? Nope. Do you have man, press, outside corners? Nope. Linebackers, you do not even have the definition between and ILB and an OLB. Pass rushers are they power, or speed, do they specialise in setting the edge, who knows? This goes on and on for every position.
So let's step back a second, you have a horrifically basic stat block and a very simplified position tree, what are you left with? Well I was left with the suggestion that, apparently, my best Nickel Corner was T.J Watt.....
The game really needs a redesign at the basic level of stats and positions, this is a very, very simplistic change though it will of course add a lot more complexity and subtlety to the game, right now it is just "trololol big numbers go brrrrr" and thats about it.
They need to do some basic research of a game like Football Manager, look how they set out their stats, physical, mental, skill and then work out which particular skills lean toward being a good positional player and viola, you have a much, much better game.
There are other basic issues such as a pretty horrifically designed and unintuitive UI, laggy as hell despite being a small game and (probably because of my earlier complaints on stats) a weird setup where OL seems to be the easiest position to play in football as every half decent or average (in real life) lineman is rated about 90+
Despite this I will actually continue to buy it, for the sake of £20 I wont miss that and hopefully the game will continue to develop with more money but right now, as damning as this may sound, you get more complexity in Madden Franchise mode.

This game is a deep dive into NFL GM. 90% of the time is spent running the roster of the team. Everything from drafting to training regiments. I've play OOTP and found the interface difficult. My all time favorite GM game is football mogul. This game has a similar approach but is waaaay deeper. If, like me, your favorite part of Madden was putting the roster together then you will love this game.
There are some non-intuitive parts to it that are easy to look past once you get the hang of it. I'm 10 hours in and am comfortable with all of the basics. There is room for minor improvements here, (like signing any free agent to a 1 year deal for $500k), but it is overall a very good GM game. I highly recommend.

This game has too many bugs to be any good. Great idea, poor execution, especially with the user interface.

i love the idea! the game is great in a few areas, however, it is largely lacking the ability to control important aspects that should be controlled by the gm.
-Scouting has a great base and can be improved but its next iteration i would hope for more control and ability to scout!
-The GM doesnt currently have control on how the team spends money on scouting staff pay etc. you should be able to put more money into scouting to get more scouting points.
-custom playbook in game is glitchy. id like to leave it on the playbook i use but it reverts back to the default. i cant find where to change that.
its got potential to be a great game just needs more and to improve on what is there.

I was looking for a pro football game with a deep franchise building mode. This game does not have it. Trading, free agency, and scouting are all subpar to terrible. If you want a deep and engaging franchise they have a lot of work to do.

I really wanted to like this game, and spent hours trying to make it work. But it is too buggy. Steam overlays kept popping up over the game while trying to set up. It took five tries and adjusting settings to get a league started. Then the start-up draft left every team in the league way over the salary cap, so no trades could be performed. After restarting again and playing two seasons, my general manager "character" disappeared. Then the next year, I got the "draft screen could not be refreshed" error and that league could not be recovered. I don't think I will be starting another league.

I'll definitely give this a thumbs up. The real world mod really makes the difference for me in my evaluation.
Pros:
1. The game incorporates concepts that I have never seen in other football games and I own all of them.
2. The Diamond Diagrams are really a novel idea that really helps visualize the game concepts.
3. You can play this game at as deep a level as you want to. I really enjoy deep level games.
Minor Cons:
1. I'd like to see a better understanding of the clock mechanics during an actual game.
2. Some of the game play diagrams seem to for instance show a run in the opposite direction of the play description. I assume the blocking linemen ratings affect the play so it would be helpful if I knew in what direction the play was actually going. That might affect strategy for me.
3. A very minor thing: During the game, if I enable full screen for watching the play, when it reverts back to the regular screen, I don't have access to the play calling buttons. They are blank and appear frozen.
All in all, a very commendable effort by the Developers and I'll be spending a lot of time playing this game. I'm sure that I'll purchase some of the other games by Wolverine Studios when they come out for 2022 editions.
Thanks.....

Absolutely not work the money. User interface is very slow and difficult to manage. Game mechanics are opaque and difficult to grasp. Nothing in the game remotely resembles the reality of managing an NFL team. I read some very positive reviews and am severely disappointed -- it's like I'm playing a completely different game from the reviewers.

Draft Day Sports Pro Football is a promising American Football Simulation game that I really hope continues to advance and enhance.
Like many other sports gamers, I am desperately looking for a real franchise sim since Madden has chased the MUT money and left the rest of us behind. It is my hope that this game finds support from the franchise/sim community to enable the developer the resources and market to continue to evolve this game.
I believe DDSPF aims to be the OOTP of American Football which would be amazing. It is not there yet but I do believe the potential is there.
The game is not without its issues this year. The UI can use some quality of life improvements (sorting, league wide editing), there are some bugs (safeties are far too common, QB rushing is off and some stats totals are bugged) and the on field play execution is a bit janky (players not lining up correctly, plays not always representing the outcome) and not as smooth or accurate as it needs to be given the lack of visuals.
It is important here to note that this game does not have or NEED fancy play execution visuals to be a top notch product (see OOTP Baseball). The Xs and Os on field display will be perfectly adequate once it becomes smooth and accurate.
If you are looking for a Madden clone, this is not it.
If you are looking for a GM/Franchise Sim then this game has the potential to be a go to product.
So while the game is not perfect I definitely can recommend this as a buy to support the genre and is an enjoyable product even with its flaws. Hopefully the developer keeps iterating each year to focus enhancements in areas EA has forgotten.
My wish list for 2023 includes:
- More commissioner mode support
- Impact player roles/tendencies (game-breaker, scrambler, strong arm, deep threat, fan favorite, fumbler, sack specialist, power back, injury prone, shutdown corner, big hitter, road blocker, etc - similar to Madden 08 PS2) This would allow more diversity among player types.
- Watch a college "all-star" game with incoming draft class rookies as a scouting tool
- Pregame show (screen) with key players, stats, predictions
In closing, the game has improved every year and I hope those on the fence will throw support and a few bucks behind this game to further broaden the market and allow these amazing independent/Not EA developers to create a game that can meet or even surpass what OOTP has done for baseball.
