The thirsty dead is a really cool movie. Shows the old souls of the cinema directors from yesterday.

PUBLIC DOMAIN
res nullius, res communes, res publicae, res universitati
* no copyright notification on release material
* copyright renewal lapsed (up to 1978 release)
* 95 years or older (USA) or 70 years after death (which ever is shorter)
----
i want to note here that 50 years of copyright exists in many other countries, not 70 or 95.
House of the Dead 1978 & Invasion of the Bee Girls 1973 are both still under copyright with proper renewals.
* some websites falsely attribute public domain to films/media without any validation.
----
great idea for public domain films. while they are free in many forms, this is another good option.
i have played through all the dlc currently. 8 dlc + base game = 9 films.
is it "horror" well, definition of horror extends greatly to many things
while some would be more considered "scifi" than horror, its more of the consensus that each film is categorized as horror film.
put some blood, gore, a killer, people dying... its thriller horror
films are all 720p stock, not "movie media files" they are packed in a format for the interactive gameplay to read
being 720p, the films quality are good or very good.
not much more than a CEF / electron browser playing the video with css, json & javascript handling the interactions.
i cant comment on the bonus material: each film & dlc includes an audio book of some similarly related story.
i didnt play any of these and wasnt entirely interested to listen to the audio books in this format
----
reason for this negative not recommendation for this collection of films...
they are not good films. i found myself mostly uninterested in the story, the characters, the cinematography, and the "horror" while playing these
many inspired in the 1970s from beautiful female fatales, screamers, exploitation, and sexual depravity of women in general.
there are some classic slasher moments however, mostly sociopathic blood spilling that only b-rated films can simulate.
it was mind numbing during the 12 hours marathon that it took to play these tedious film games. (it was actually 24, due to breaks, sleep, and youtube uploading, editing, downloading the next DLC, etc)
several segments involved failing and backtracking extended periods of dialog, several films did this very well with less than 2 minutes of backtracking a cut.
many of the "interactions" were unintuitive and nonsensical, how does the observer predict which random option skips important segments of film narration or action?
----
of the 9 films present, i found `house of the dead` & `grave of the vampire` to be the best and worth your time.
the others may be a curiousity for horror and public domain fans, but they were very mediocre low budget films of their era at best.
adding some other well known and "good" films to this collection could bring my return...
consider Horror Express 1972, Manos Hands of Fate 1966, or The Terror 1963 for color horror.
the other collection has more entertaining and intelligent films, give it a look

I recommend Rough Kuts if you have an interest and like FMV games and also horror. You need to understand though these are simple FMV games and they are cheap and aren't ask a lot. So if you expect anything like mini games an puzzles im sorry you wont find any. If you enjoy buying FMV games though these are good especially for the price and amount of content available and the amount more to come. If you know what your getting into and haven't set your bar way to high in the sky these are worth it imo. Im also an FMV junkie lol,

These games are so fun and a really cool way to watch movies I have never seen before. I also really like that I can choose what ending the movie has. I look forward to playing more Rough Kuts games.

OK...
So someone on the internet looked up THE WORST POSSIBLE HORROR MOVIES EVER MADE and made a so called "interactive movie"
but all you really do is click on a dialouge option or just "IGNORE" and skip like 10 sec of the real movie,
its so bad.
you can't even call this a game. a visual novel has more depth then this shit.
What you are paying for is a shitty movie that pauses at random points so you can click on two or more options that just continue the movie.
If you really wish to see this film be my guess, but i think its better to find it on youtube and watch it.
0/5
its not a game, im not even sure how you can call it a game.

The "Rough Kuts" series are public domain movies with spliced scenes with choice in between to give them a visual novel/CYOA game style. This one is The Thirsty Dead. Now, while it’s a fun and really cheap way to get & discover the movies, the “gameplay” is very limited. Unlike a visual novel, for example, you cannot change the movie’s narrative, since it got a beginning, a middle and an end. Yes, they are some “game over” added (I remember the ones in Night of the Living Dead) but it only ends the story prematurely. Thus I recommend only is you wish to get the movies for cheap with light gameplay and not if you’re looking for a deep narrative, CYOA game.
