I just finished playing Phantom Furry in three days, and wow—the storyline is absolutely insane, in a good way! The maps are totally wild too. There was one particular map that had me stuck for almost an hour trying to solve a puzzle—probably because I rushed through the game a bit.
As for the weapons, not bad at all. I ended up using the shotgun way more than any of the other weapons. Especially near the end of the game, things got even more epic. The final boss fight? Use the alien weapon—trust me. It generates its own ammo and is insanely efficient.
Really hoping there’s a part 3 coming, because the ending totally hints at a continuation.
That’s all for my review. Peace!

Imagine a game which have annoying gameplay features like hitscan turrets and snipers, imagine that you have to run through a corridor to shot a box and you have no clear sight of it. You have to run through this corridor while taking damage because the turret is a hitscan.
This is too much, in one level you are told to sneak around because of snipers, it would've been okay if it was properly designed but this game it is not. It is a red laser sweeping about and if spotted act like a turret.
Shooting an enemy has no feedback either. There is no reaction to enemies getting shot. There was more to feedback to enemies in Quake 1 and Quake 2 back in the 90's which this game is trying to replicate.
4 out 10.

It's not as bad as people are bringing out to be. It's far from perfect, but it's -fine-.
I understand people are just ragging on it cause of some other people's opinion's, but to really find out if you like it or not, I'd just try it out and then refund if it doesn't tickle your fancy.
It's a decent shooter at a decent price. That's it.

I did not enjoy my time in this game. While trying to explore I would often run into invisible walls blocking me. The game seems to love placing objects no matter how unimportant everywhere. This makes it very hard to find things that are helpful to use. The game's rooms and hallways all have a similar bland look. While having a theme is important but when you are shooting and spinning around you will often ask yourself "Where the hell am I?" The jail break mission and Chicago streets mission are the worse examples of this. The vehicle sections of the game are tedious and boring. There are upgrades for weapons but I found some upgrades make your weapon worse and you can't remove the upgrades. Like I use to be able to spray the goo gun in a nice straight line but I got its other upgrade and now it just sprays a big area and uses way more ammo to do it. The arm punch thing is glitchy to use. It will try to home in for you but if you collide with terrain it basicaly just stuns you. You would think using it on tougher enemies would help but the punch itself has no stun effect so you will often throw yourself at a big enemy and be left at its mercy. Occasionaly when I walk on a moveable object the game has send me flying through the air. It was amusing when it got me past a turret once. But the 2nd time it threw me off a cliff and I had to scale through a bunker just to climb back up.
It feels like this game was created by people who knew how to use tools to make a game but don't know how to make a good game. It felt like the only goal was to make a playable game and not a good game. They shouldn't of add so much useless clutter to decorate rooms. If you make your maps loop in on itself then its absolutely vital to have obvious signs where to go. When lost it is very tiresome to travel to every turn and door again just to see if something open up.
I loved Ion Fury but Phantom Fury is a poor game wearing Ion Fury's skin.

bought this game while on sale, and ive decided to refund it. the a.i for the enemies are wild. they walk right by shelly and dont have good detection. i thought the enemies were my friends as shelly bumps right into them, no hostile reaction. it was by far telling of what was to come for this game and decided to cut and run and take my money elsewhere than on this game.
rest of the game was fine, though if the a.i can't tell Shelly is there even when they look right at her, thats a red flag!

This game is pathetic, I loved ion fury, and even the dlc (which felt a bit lazy but even then i still enjoyed it). The visuals of the previous game, that techno grimy look, the enemy types that ranged wildly (even the annoying spider heads) gave the game a great feel.
But this game? what the hell happened? Why do we spend 90% of the game in generic boring brown Arizona? why are all the locations modern day sewers, military bases, trash heaps etc, what happened to the cyberpunk feel? Oh thats right it was wasted on the last level, except by that point you just want this pathetic excuse for a game to end by that point so you can't even enjoy it.
The combat feels weak, not a single enemy poses a threat and the instant you get the charge punch you can wipe entire waves of enemies regardless of how much hp they have. Glitches and crashes galore, during 1 playthrough it crashed every day I played it (about 6-8 times) I glitched myself out of bounds 3 times/got glitched into walls and overall it just feels incredibly unpolished.
The story? what story, big bad is evil cause reasons, the secondary bad guy that comes out of nowhere, gets one bad guy line and you kill them, the ending sequence felt rushed and forced. And the whole "main character from Sin is in the game!" thing? you get 3 lines of dialogue from him in the final level which boils down to "oh hey, hold the line for a bit" "oh hey you're killing the final boss? cool" "nah I'm not going with you, here's my gun, bye". and his gun isn't even anything that special, why even bother?
Overall this game is a dull, unpolished, rushed, easy as hell mess of an experience and even at half price I want my money back after that 8 hour slog.

This is throw back to the old FPS days no flashy UI and does a neat job catching that feel. To those expecting none retro mechanics it will feel off but for old schoolers this felt like a glove. haha
Fun ride and neat side story.
Not for everyone expecting modern mechanics this is a retro play one

to start off, ion fury is a wayyyyy better game. if ion fury is a "boomer shooter" this game is trying to be the generation just after that like half life and it does it... not as good. i dont think this game is bad, but it isnt great and its faults show very quickly. its hard not to compare it to ion fury and by that standard, this game is very bad. some how shelly got a new arm and a total nerf. however, understanding what they game is going for... its still not a great one. you dont feel very incentivised to explore the area and the interaction you get with the area feels forced because there isnt much reward like there had been in other games it is trying to replicate.
i dont think this game is awful, but man does it need more work. i think for a cheap price i could recommend it but full price, nahhhh man.
Edit: so i just finished the game. it took me 13 hours and man it was alot but i also have more to say. i dont really think this is a bad game and there is some clear effort put into the visuals and presentation. its hard to say if this game over stayed its welcome because i finished it over a few days. if i would have powered through this in two or so sittings than yeah i could say it was too much. the real issues are things like the weapons. there is a ton of weapons, in fairness but some of them are worthless. the foam shooter for example was basically never used. i wasnt in a situation where it was very necessary or something that felt like it was doing anything meaningful. the weapon upgrades range from pretty useful to utterly garbage. the ice grenade on the assault rifle for example didnt feel like it did anything. there are weapons that just completely outclass others. you'll stick to a handful by the end. because of how wide open some of the locations get, weapons like the shotgun become useless entirely yet they are still giving you ammo for it. its baffling.
i played on hard so i know it boosted enemy hp but i'm not sure what else it changed. theres a point where they really get out of hand with the amount of kamikaze enemies they will throw at in one instance. the choice to make the drones explode with a pretty sizable explosion is a pretty awful one if you ask me. once you kill one or a few, you have to way far too long before they explode. i imagine they made it so long so you can make some distance but some times you'll kill one within the timing of another one you killed and the first explosion will send the non exploded one right at you. needless to say, i had some pretty cheap feeling deaths or damage taking place. the levels can be pretty confusing at times. if you arent paying attention, its easy to lose track of exactly where they want you to go. your goals can be vague. also there are some weird physic based glitches or getting stuck on geometry. frustrating stuff.
but even with all of this said, i did like the changing locations and varied gameplay from moment to moment. i wasnt bored at all. i dont think this game is for everybody though. they try to make an emotional story with shelly and thats whatever, but it comes off kind of cringe after you just slaughter countless people. its an odd choice.
i know they were going for a halflife vibe but its just such a step down from ion fury that its hard to ignore. it isnt nearly as good as that game but it isnt bad.

I dont think Phantom Fury is a BAD boomer shooter. Is it better than Ion fury? Fuck no. Not even close. Ion Fury was a labor of love on a outdated engine that even in the 90's was a pain in the ass to make games on. Phantom Fury on paper is the perfect Boomer Shooter, and it has the "vibes" to fool most into thinking its the best in the genre. Pointless interactive objects? CHECK! Pixelated visuals? CHECK! Wise cracking protagonist yelling one liners? CHECK! The "vibes" are indeed here, so why the hate?
While i think some Youtubers are to blame for the initial reactions, i can't blame them for playing the terrible demo and giving their thoughts. The full release has gotten better after some updates, but the launch being bad doesnt help. The game still kinda runs like shit, which is odd considering the genre itself is replicating games that ran buttery smooth. Combat is fun for the most part but the weapons lack the punch and depth Ion Fury had. Map design is TERRIBLE, the amount of backtracking to find where i need to go next is ridiculous.
Some of the situation solutions make no sense. "find the power switch to turn the computer on", then why the hell are the lights working already and there is no clear indication I NEED TO FIND THE POWER?! How about Shelly talks less about killing people and more about helping the player? Shelly is another low point, she was a fun and witty badass in Ion Fury, now shes a psychopath that loves killing. Another downside is the lack of a antagonist. We are told some vague force of power is looking for weapons of mass destruction, but never name the person in charge or give us a reason to hate them other than "they bad".
I don't think Ion Phantom is terrible. Its not GREAT, but i've played FAAAR worse in this genre. Its a generic but entertaining shooter that i'd recommend for $15 or less.
