Honestly i enjoyed my time with this game . Its defently not polished by the end but i liked it as someone who grew up with these type of games youi defently get the late 90s erly 2000s vibs guns are cool looks good . gameplay is good tho AI is kinda random. but on sale its a decent shooter

I don't understand why the game got such negative reviews. I enjoyed playing the first part, which was a throwback to the time of Duke Nukem 3D, and this one was clearly inspired by the games of the Quake2 era. In both cases, the games perfectly convey the spirit of the past and at the same time are gorgeous to play. I read in the reviews that the shotgun doesn't work, and it's impossible to hit anything with grenades. I'm not sure how experienced players wrote this, there are actually two shotguns, one weak, but multi-shot, the other single-shot but shoots THREE rounds at once and is the most powerful weapon at close range. And the fact that someone managed to miss with grenades that self-target enemies remains a mystery to me. All fans of old-school shooters are highly recommended to play this game!

This game deserved better. Both from its publisher who should have let the devs finish QA testing, but also from the press and public for reasons that were only mostly justified. This game is fun when it has forward momentum, when you're running and gunning and pushing into enemy territory. The problem is the game often slows to a crawl, sometimes to make you jerk around on some computer terminals or keycard hunts and sometimes for short puzzles or vehicle sections that left me with nothing to do but nitpick the game's flaws. The game's best weapons are punchy and cathartic to use with fun upgrades and I wanted to keep playing just to keep using them, but they're picking up a LOT of slack from the game's worst weapons which feel limp either from the handling or the damage -- and it really doesn't help the two shotguns you pick up early on both suck. The game alternates between "yeah that was pretty fun" to "ok but am I really having fun?" One thing the gaming public keeps comparing the game to is Half Life 1, and going into the game with that in mind is not what I thought nor should it be what you're chasing after. You're not playing as Gordon Freeman the innocent cornered rattlesnake who went from MIT straight into fighting for his life, you're playing as Shelly Harrison the drunk, raging, shellshocked SWAT officer. That's the vibe of the combat, and if you let the game play to that strength you'll at least have some fun gunfights Graphics and visual style are good, with distinct silhouettes and particle effects and texture work on everything from weapons to enemies to environment and I always liked what I was looking at. Sound design is pretty bad: some sounds that should be loud are too quiet and vice versa, the music is really inconsistent and sometimes doesn't play at all, and even the good sound effects only make it up to "acceptable." Older reviews complain about the bugs, I only ran into two: one where I got stuck in a crate, and one where I couldn't shoot my weapons at the start of a level until picking up some ammo (at which point I was already about to die, but the bug didn't happen again when I loaded a save). So the glitches seem to have been fixed Overall I enjoyed Phantom Fury. I'm left in a position where I understand why others don't, and wish it could have been given just a few more months to trim the fat and let the game really feel complete, but also don't regret a single cent I spent on the game Sewer count: 3

Thought I'd buy at a discount to see if the game had improved a year after release. I'm now seeing why it's so unpopular. It's janky in ways that would take a long time to describe. The combat doesn't flow very well, and level design is often confusing and your path forwarded poorly signposted. I finished the game, but it's unlikely I'll be having a second playthrough.

Game is overall ok. Worth playing on a discount. Ion Fury > Phantom Fury. Period! Gunplay, music (when is active) and graphics are the best things of the game. Its more Half-life like game than a boomer shooter.

to start off, ion fury is a wayyyyy better game. if ion fury is a "boomer shooter" this game is trying to be the generation just after that like half life and it does it... not as good. i dont think this game is bad, but it isnt great and its faults show very quickly. its hard not to compare it to ion fury and by that standard, this game is very bad. some how shelly got a new arm and a total nerf. however, understanding what they game is going for... its still not a great one. you dont feel very incentivised to explore the area and the interaction you get with the area feels forced because there isnt much reward like there had been in other games it is trying to replicate. i dont think this game is awful, but man does it need more work. i think for a cheap price i could recommend it but full price, nahhhh man. Edit: so i just finished the game. it took me 13 hours and man it was alot but i also have more to say. i dont really think this is a bad game and there is some clear effort put into the visuals and presentation. its hard to say if this game over stayed its welcome because i finished it over a few days. if i would have powered through this in two or so sittings than yeah i could say it was too much. the real issues are things like the weapons. there is a ton of weapons, in fairness but some of them are worthless. the foam shooter for example was basically never used. i wasnt in a situation where it was very necessary or something that felt like it was doing anything meaningful. the weapon upgrades range from pretty useful to utterly garbage. the ice grenade on the assault rifle for example didnt feel like it did anything. there are weapons that just completely outclass others. you'll stick to a handful by the end. because of how wide open some of the locations get, weapons like the shotgun become useless entirely yet they are still giving you ammo for it. its baffling. i played on hard so i know it boosted enemy hp but i'm not sure what else it changed. theres a point where they really get out of hand with the amount of kamikaze enemies they will throw at in one instance. the choice to make the drones explode with a pretty sizable explosion is a pretty awful one if you ask me. once you kill one or a few, you have to way far too long before they explode. i imagine they made it so long so you can make some distance but some times you'll kill one within the timing of another one you killed and the first explosion will send the non exploded one right at you. needless to say, i had some pretty cheap feeling deaths or damage taking place. the levels can be pretty confusing at times. if you arent paying attention, its easy to lose track of exactly where they want you to go. your goals can be vague. also there are some weird physic based glitches or getting stuck on geometry. frustrating stuff. but even with all of this said, i did like the changing locations and varied gameplay from moment to moment. i wasnt bored at all. i dont think this game is for everybody though. they try to make an emotional story with shelly and thats whatever, but it comes off kind of cringe after you just slaughter countless people. its an odd choice. i know they were going for a halflife vibe but its just such a step down from ion fury that its hard to ignore. it isnt nearly as good as that game but it isnt bad.

This game is pathetic, I loved ion fury, and even the dlc (which felt a bit lazy but even then i still enjoyed it). The visuals of the previous game, that techno grimy look, the enemy types that ranged wildly (even the annoying spider heads) gave the game a great feel. But this game? what the hell happened? Why do we spend 90% of the game in generic boring brown Arizona? why are all the locations modern day sewers, military bases, trash heaps etc, what happened to the cyberpunk feel? Oh thats right it was wasted on the last level, except by that point you just want this pathetic excuse for a game to end by that point so you can't even enjoy it. The combat feels weak, not a single enemy poses a threat and the instant you get the charge punch you can wipe entire waves of enemies regardless of how much hp they have. Glitches and crashes galore, during 1 playthrough it crashed every day I played it (about 6-8 times) I glitched myself out of bounds 3 times/got glitched into walls and overall it just feels incredibly unpolished. The story? what story, big bad is evil cause reasons, the secondary bad guy that comes out of nowhere, gets one bad guy line and you kill them, the ending sequence felt rushed and forced. And the whole "main character from Sin is in the game!" thing? you get 3 lines of dialogue from him in the final level which boils down to "oh hey, hold the line for a bit" "oh hey you're killing the final boss? cool" "nah I'm not going with you, here's my gun, bye". and his gun isn't even anything that special, why even bother? Overall this game is a dull, unpolished, rushed, easy as hell mess of an experience and even at half price I want my money back after that 8 hour slog.

I like the idea of it, and it seems like it could've been fun, but things like grenades need to have their own dedicated button, there's too many indie games using the bionic arm, and objectives seem unclear or something. I find myself getting lost a lot or not knowing where to go. The character's lines are pretty lame, and lastly, the controls are way too floaty for the number of enemies that get thrown at you

This game had Promise. It has the seeds of greatness even. But it was sadly poorly implemented. About the halfway point is when the level design and the kinda Stupid AI turn from something Manageable to something that I found Annoying. If they patched it more and maybe gave it a gameplay DLC or 2 to fix it the game would probably be a solid 6/10 or 7/10. But sadly I don't think they will.

pros: - very long game, lots of levels - good gunplay, all of them are useful which most games dont get right - enemy types are diverse and require strategies - graphics and aestehthics are good looking, very reminiscent of HL2 - I think the Hard difficulty offers a good, fair challenge - the story has some cool parts and is well made in the beginning (gets progressively worse though) cons: - movement is horrible, always sliding around and airstrafing is very counterintuitive - artstyle, characters, humor and level design is very different from Ion Fury - I feel like they made the main character very different and it takes away from the original - level design took a big step down from Ion Fury, no cool secrets hidden so exploring is pointless, level structure and gameplay flow are mediocre at best, sometimes really bad. - often very empty areas that make you question where to go, sometimes you do nothing but walk around for 10 minutes - the last part of the game in the city takes way too long, it feels like half the game is in one level - boss fights are badly designed, final boss(es) are very uninspired - the story is super super stereotypical, but not in the cheesy way of Ion Fury but more like Dhar Mann videos TL;DR it is still a good game that is reminiscent of the mid 2000s to 2010 shooters like HL2, Chaser, Far Cry, Halo CE. You get a lot of playtime out of this in my opinion. I think most of the bad reviews come from people comparing it to Ion Fury which is logical but the games are nothing alike at all. The only thing they share are the looks of the protagonist and some guns. If you remove the Ion Fury label it becomes an alright game, however if you want to play something that is a "successor" or similar game to Ion Fury, do not buy this. The aesthetics (not talking about graphics) are nothing alike, its not the gloomy, cheesy artstyle anymore, the main character is not as corny anymore, they try to give her a deep backstory but this only takes away from the character I feel like. The level design is sadly very bad, even when not comparing to the absolute god tier level design of Ion Fury. So buy it if you want a cool story shooter that is similar to 2000s shooter games, do not buy if you want the Ion Fury experience.
