Need More Troops Reviews

Inspired by traditional turn-based fantasy strategies and modern auto battlers, we created the fast-paced rogue-lite game about growing a massive army against ever-increasing hordes of enemies. You should act wisely, though: the formation and battle plan are just as important as the army's size!

Unlike a lot of games I give negative review to, this one actually seems to do everything it is meant to do quite well. It just isn't meant to do very much. In fact, it feels like a piece, maybe 20%, of a really fun game, a solid piece, but one lacking a lot of the things a real game should have, be and do. Games, for me, are defined by the options and choices the players has. Here, there just aren't many, and they seldom feel like decisions as much as picking the obvious setting for the next battle. For example there is a unit that can either do better against melee or non-melee units. 90% of the time, you know exactly what you are going to fight, an army made up totally of one unit type. The only exception is the portal attacks that happen every 30 rounds, and those are mixed. In addition it is beyond fluff-light and pretty much fluff-free, not something you expect from a fantasy setting. You have a hero, but they are nameless, faceless and you have no clue what they add to a battle, even though they level up. I could go on and on about what it lacks, but I think anyone who has read this far gets the point. It lacks decisions, it lacks flavor, and it lacks fun. Sorry, two thumbs down.

Worth spending money on. I hope the developer adds additional content or releases a sequel.

The gameplay loop is very addictive. Considering the price of this game, it's a great deal, definitely can recommend.

A fun little rogue lite game to pass some time. I find it worth the price of admittance.

Nice and fast gameplay. Cuts out the fat and gets to the point. There are a few choices to make as you play, but balance could use a bit of tweaking. Got a couple hours of entertainment out of this. Unlocked all there is. Definitively worth the $0.99 USD it cost me. It's got a good base. Would love to see more.

A solid blend of the Auto-Battler, Strategy (HoMM-style, in particular), and Roguelite genres. There isn't a ton of content, and it isn't perfectly polished. I played a couple hours and feel done with the game, more or less. But for a dollar, that's perfectly fine. Those couple hours were good fun. I mentioned a lack of polish, but nothing about the game was buggy or frustrating, either, and that's more than I can say for most AAA games. Definitely worth a spin if you've got a dollar burning a hole in your pocket and enjoy simple strategy games.

This game doesn't have any story, just battles after battles. And a few "economic" decisions. But it fits this game really well - it's definitely not about the story. Devs, I know that this is EA but for God sake, made Victory and Lose windows ASAP!!!

Don't let the simplistic graphics (Read: Old School) or ... honestly, the terrible-ismo interface throw you off. The gratification from this game comes from careful planning. No thanks to the atrocious 'instructions'. This game calls itself a 'Rogue-Lite', and to clarify what THEY must mean by that (the differences between rogue-like and lite are up to debate depending on who you talk to): * Permadeath * No carrying forward of abilities, powers, strengths or benefits of any kind on death * * * Which is to say, there is no 'rebirth' style functionality * Levels are procedurally generated It IS basically a fast-paced, no-frills, Heroes Of Might And Magic. It hit's all the right feels, and doesn't take a ton of time or excessive management. You can run through an entire 'game' session in about 15 minutes. For more challenging difficulty settings, it can and will take longer and longer as you plot out your next set of moves, three steps in advance, and adjust your teams settings to optimize damage mitigation, vs damage output. For a simple, compact game, it has JUST the right amount of complexity, and that is either increased, or decreased (down to the point an 8 year old could dominate) with difficulty settings. Well done on this game. I recommend picking it up. Especially if it's on sale.

I bought this game on a whim since it was 10 cents under the buck and I also had half an hour to kill. I ended up playing this hours on end somehow. The gameplay is simple yet addictive, set up a team to fight in auto battles by rearranging them depending on the enemies make up and where/how they attack. It's quick and after a few tries relatively easy to understand the mechanics (it took a few runs for me to understand how the reinforcement mechanics worked, despite being written in the how to play). With how quick runs took, each loss just compelled me to try another run and try another squad lineup. Playing on the second highest difficulty, though I no idea what each level adjusts in terms of challenge, I only managed to make it to the 3rd zone before getting overwhelmed by each 30 turn wave. The difficulty spikes a bit much I feel and there is that touch of RNG which can either bless or unbless a run, but it could also be that I'm just not playing optimally. Overall, it's a fun little game with a very solid gameplay loop, appealing art style and music to compliment and I can definitely see myself playing here and there. I really enjoyed the game so far and I wish you guys the best in your development, top job!

Very good game of HOMM stripped of all that fiddly tactical combat nonsense. Actually, I like the tactical combat nonsense, but this game does retain some of it. What I never liked was running around collecting my troops from their spawn points and this game does away with that entirely. The tactics remains as you really do need to consider your enemies' disposition as well as your own. You don't need to shuffle your units around too much (those stupid archers are the problem), but switching between their skills is very critical. I made one mistake this last game and it cost me dearly. However, I had time to come back and regroup. I still may have lost if the final troops had been a different composition. As it were, they completely played into the strengths, of both my leader and remaining troops.
