Good Game, campaign is a challenge, but it doesn't keep me from trying to beat it. 10/10

The first game is way better and so much simpler. They changed too much about the original games mechanics. I'm guessing they wanted a new original experience but in my eyes this game is a step in the wrong direction as far as a strategic card game. Also there is no multiplayer really unless you'd like to join their discord hoping someone is on and willing to play.

The campaign is not what I expected. The cards are fixed for you and you just hope they allow you to win. I think this is maybe best played PVP. My down vote is for solitary play as I do not usually mess with online PVP

EDIT: Post-Mobile Release: Still a great game. Excited to see how the state of the game evolves now that the player base has expanded dramatically. December marks a new set of card releases, at the time of this review I have obtained every card. EDIT: Great Job! Thank you for taking the community feedback to heart. I want to apologize for how Red Team's vision was not the same as the communities expectation for CnC2. We appreciate how much work you had put into it as well. Although the gameplay mechanics are not exact, it's nice to spice them up a bit with the diagonal combat. The placement of troops to their reachable tiles is also interesting and how there is no longer a set of shared middle tiles. I look forward to crafting all new decks with the many different abilities and cards created with the new and old card-arts. OLD REVIEW: Just play the first Cards and Castles. They put a lot of effort into it and I bought, even though I thought it would suck, and I was right. I continue to play C&C, you guys changed the entire game. It's not the same and if you port the entirety of the story into C&C you'd have done better IMO.

Don't normally change a review on most games, but I will this time. Cards and Castles 2 was running well (for me at least) when it released. But after a ton of Updates/Patches/Hot Fixes they finally broke it for me. Can no longer play the game. Will not load correctly (most times) and always gives me the error "C2.exe not responding" So until Red Team Games gets ANOTHER fix in place, I will not recommend this title. P.S. BTW, if the Devs are actually reading reviews, how come this is the ONLY TITLE in my vast library of games that gives me a "C2.exe not responding" error message? Tell me that!

My previous review will remain below, only for the sake of explaining what changed and what direction the game is going in. So the game has gone through some changes, for the better I think. I feel like it's gonna get more and more polished. The damage range cards can deal is now shown. It doesn't explain however what impacts the range and that the closer the enemy unit is to 0, the more it will deal. There's also still no way to see what some AoE effects (Chain lightning, Explosive) will do to enemy units and can cause you to miscalculate, since again, no numbers are displayed by design. I still hate RNG mechanics like 'Steal' which allows you to steal cards from your opponent's deck, which is a cool concept but I really hate it since you can be lucky and rob your opponent of their win condition or be unlucky and get stuff that is useless for you. All and all, I now enjoy the game and can't wait to see what's next. --- The concept is great and the execution is pretty good, but at the time of writing, I can't give this a positive review. Reminder that this is an EA game, and will most likely have some changes along the way. [b]The Good:[/b] - Great concept. CCG mixed with a board, something Duelyst did wonderfully and Cards and Castles 2 hits the mark. - Enough faction variety, so far every faction has good cards and I haven't seen any one faction outshine the others. - Lengthy campaign, with access to a variety of decks. - No pay to win: you can farm all the current cards quite easily. - Good variety of units, powers, types of cards. No one deck feels the same. [b]The Bad:[/b] - No tutorial or mechanic explanations. The cards have keywords, which are explained, but often times the keywords will have an additional unexplained mechanic in them. For example: Entomb explains that a unit dying with this status gets buried under a Tombstone, but nothing explains what a Tombstone is. Fear explains that a target flees, but doesn't give the details of Fleeing. Good luck figuring out how far the card who 'Fears a little' does. - The campaign is brutal. Even against the 'Potato' AI, you're still being held back by the mystery deck you're forced to play with. Only a few people so far have beaten it (at the worst AI), and it's hard to figure out what you're supposed to do with the deck you're given, since you can't view its contents. - High numerical values. The numbers are just above Heartstone/Runeterra, but waaay below Yugioh or Pokemon values. Think 12-34. This, mixed with cards that increase power by % makes the whole thing hard to keep track of. This might seem like not much of a big deal, but the following point makes it 10x worse. - No numerical values are displayed on the health bars, so it's hard to plan how to destroy a unit over a couple of turns, unless you open an excel sheet and calculate there. This should definitely be in-game. There is a workaround where you can hover over units to see 1:1 interactions and how much HP each will have left, but you can't do the same interaction with multiple units. Having numbers would solve these problems. - [strike]Weird RNG design choices. The values on the cards are not the actual values in-game. For example, a 10 attack unit can hit your 11 HP unit and kill it by dealing 11 damage. ***This is not a bug, even though it seems like it is, so the values you see on the card isn't what you get in-game, and can lead to confusing outcomes. There is also a random extra damage value of 1-2, confirmed by devs, but not indicated anywhere in-game. So, even if you try and follow the suboptimal numerical values, you most likely will end up getting fucked over regardless.[/strike] - [strike]Bugs. The pathing on your ranged units will sometimes go in melee range to attack instead of using the range at a diagonal.[/strike] - Rock-paper-scissor gameplay between factions. All factions are pretty good, yes, but one faction counters another, and that one counters another, etc. This paired up with the multiplayer makes the whole game feel scummy. - [strike]The multiplayer lobby. The lobby seems like a good concept in theory, a place where you hang out and challenged players, but you can see what deck the opponent has and just pick a deck that counters it.[/strike] I will most likely be coming back once the games comes out and see if the issues are fixed. For the price, it's pretty decent, but it's hard to recommend this Card game over one of the other more polished (and free) ones.

Great game with a lot of potential! Now that it's released on mobile it has a decent player base so it's a good time to come back

Great CCG, tons of strategy that feels with almost no skill cap, and there is still so much more to be added. Very satisfying rewarding experience for understanding in depth game mechanics. Campaign was tons of fun cant wait for more of that, hopefully some more challenging campaign as well.

I was pleasantly surprised by this game. With the added complexity of the board, it still manages to stay simple in core mechanics and yet has lots of room for strategical deckbuilding and gameplay. The board strategies aren't going to come anywhere close to games like chess, but there are still tactical decisions to made with positioning your units, body blocking, and retreating from unfavourable trades. Be aware that this game has a LOT of RNG, though it is handled in a way that feels reasonably fair for both players. It is probably impossible to build a deck without some amount of randomly generated cards or randomly assigned damage pings. There is just so much of it. I'm never a big fan of this direction of card design, but the game overall is still really fun for me to play. The card earning model is typical of most ccg's but they are quite generous in the amount of card packs and quests they start you off with. I was able to build what felt like a decently competitive list after only a few hours of questing. You could probably build a top-tier list after 5-10 hours, even without disenchanting anything. And anyways It's free so what do you have to lose!

It's got a good look to it, but don't be fooled - the campaign is wicked challenging. Yet fair. It rankles my brain. Lots of fun flavor to the units. Great voice acting too! It's higher-quality than a $20-something game would suggest. If you're a fan of card-based strategy, this is a solid choice.
