If you remember playing old LucasArts point and clicks, this scratches that nostalgia itch perfectly. Nails the tone and look of those games without being weighed down by moon brain logic. It helps that the writing is clever and the art direction is very good.

A very nostalgic experience, for better or worse. While some puzzles are fun, a lot are very unintuitive and tedious. However, a fairly generous hint system helps this. The humor is cheesy in exactly the the same way as its inspirations, which can give some ironic laughs. The art and voice acting are really great.
I was disappointed that the murder mystery (and honestly the story in general) was just set dressing for a game that was very clearly aiming to be an homage to the point-and-click classics over anything else. The mystery was the aspect that drew me and it ended up being almost irrelevant to the experience.
I can appreciate the game for what it actually is, but I just really wish it wasn't marketed as a "thrilling mystery" full of "shocking twists" when that's just not accurate.

I'll admit, I was hesitant about getting this game initially, cause it seemed fairly goofy, and I wasn't sure it was going to be to my taste, but turns out I had underestimated it. This game takes a lot of tropes and made them not only palatable, but befitting for the story instead of taking me out of it. Some of the jokes are a little bit blunt, but I don't see that taking away from it (since... well, that's kinda the point). I found the characters interesting, even Herman (who I thought was a little bit bland at first, but he grew on me), the art style's fantastic, the story is actually fairly compelling, and I found the ending to be particularly satisfying (I will admit, it made a bit excited seeing the ending, I thought it was super clean without being too abrupt). If you like detective games, were a fan of Murder On the Orient Express, and/or you want a game that'll make you grin a bit at the absurdity, then I would highly recommend it. Plus, it has a Noir Mode, for a more Casablanca feel, if you are so inclined.

Loco Motive is an absolute gem of a game that beautifully captures the heart and soul of classic point-and-click adventures while delivering a fresh, modern experience. From the moment the title screen appears, you're treated to a delightful combination of nostalgic charm and slick, contemporary polish.
The background music perfectly sets the tone, blending whimsical melodies with suspenseful undertones that match the game's quirky and mysterious atmosphere. The art and animations are fantastic, each scene is packed with character and detail, with smooth transitions and expressive character designs that really bring the world to life.
What truly makes Loco Motive stand out is its humour and storytelling. The writing is clever, witty, and filled with laugh-out-loud moments, yet the story still manages to feel engaging and well-paced. The voice acting is top-notch across the board, with each character brought to life with distinct and memorable performances.
Playing Loco Motive felt like stepping back into the golden age of LucasArts style adventures. It’s streamlined where it needs to be, yet still rich with puzzles, personality, and charm.
If you're a fan of point-and-click adventures, or just love games that make you smile while keeping you entertained, Loco Motive is a must-play. It’s a modern classic with an old-school soul.

OK, I usually give a thumb up to any pixel adventure games because these games are much more scarce nowadays. For this one I wish I can have a meh option but I still give it a yes painfully.
The pros:

Very fine pixel arts

All interactable items can be highlighted so there is no grinding of pixel-hunting

Great voice acting
Now comes to the cons:

It's been about 8 months since this game was released and it is still buggy. In the end of chapter 2 as far as I remember, there is only sound of Don but not his figure after fake chips are confiscated. I guess it is not designed like that on purpose.

It is very annoying indeed to walk back and forth the train. Is it possible to add a fast travel button so that we can select which carriage to go to?

Boring gameplay due to endless walking and clicking. There are only a few scenes in the game and it gets old pretty fast.
Much room for improvement and painstakingly playable. 5.5 out of 10.

A very good point and click adventure game. Dialogue and Voice Acting are its strongest points in my opinion, especially Arthur Ackerman. Story is ordinary but fun. Puzzles which are the core gameplay are fun and intuitive, except at a very few, maybe a couple of places, where there is leap of logic or knowing what to do but had to be done in certain order. In built hint system is very well balanced and nicely made a part of the game. Characters are quirky in a fun way. Overall a good, fun silly (in a good way) experience.

Loco Motive has – and I don't say this lightly – got to be one of the best point & click adventures I've played. It's a charming, lovely, and joyful rendition of an accessible game that has a lot of twists up its sleeves. And I do recommend it to anyone who likes these kinds of games or to those who want to explore this genre for the first time. Only the most die-hard fans who found Monkey Island 2 to be too easy for the first time and wants some serious challenge will be disappointed.
When I say that Loco Motive is accessible, I mean it's rather on the easier end of the difficulty, has little inventory clutter, has some NPC helpers and an in-game help hotline that is charmingly woven into the game's lore and backstory.
At the beginning you step into the shoes of Arthur A. Ackermann, designated attorney for Reuss Express empire owner Lady Unterwald, and oversees Lady Unterwald's last will. When Lady Unterwald passes away prematurely by murder, there are lot of suspects in the room, or, rather, on board the Reuss Express. So, it has the same closed-off and confined setup a lot of mystery crime stories' premises start off with. To offer diversity in its locations, the game uses flashbacks and flashforwards and soon you take over control of more than one character.
The game benefits from a strong narrative, brilliantly humorous moments, and an excellent cast of voice actors for every single character. No shortcuts were taken even for minor supporting characters. The gameplay is standard as these types of games get but the difficulty went with the time where your library is probably bursting with games and where it's okay to have games that don't require weeks of going back and forth until you randomly hit that one solution that kept you sleepless all those nights. If you're looking for that reenactment of point and click adventure history, you're not going to be happy. On the other hand, the easy difficulty will not get in the way of the narrative's pace.
Apart from that it is a faithful recreation of old vibes paired with top-notch animations. When Diana puts a gas canister in her evening dress or Arthur uses a makeshift fan accidentally on his face and blows his hair back just for it to spring back in perfect shape or when he tries to snatch some flying documents with the handle of an umbrella you cannot but feel pure childhood-like joy to watch these animations and characters interact with the world.
