I'm totally in love with this game! It's the neat sweet spot between Imperator Rome and a more casual, user-friendly approach to 4x Strategy Games. The graphics are colourful and nice (Unreal Engine) and the game gets steady updates. A lot of things which users recommendated were already implemented in the game. For me one of the best roman strategy games out there, I also learned quite some history trough it :P

The first time I spotted this game on Steam, I added it to my wishlist since it caught my attention. Here is my opinion after playing for a bit after I got it. It's not bad at all, but there is room for improvement, I like it because it reminded me of a mix between Rome Total War and Civilization, but it would be harder and more difficult for someone who has never played Victoria II to get into the game flow. Nevertheless, once you do, you will enjoy it, so I recommend it for strategy fans! Peace!

This game was recommended to me by a friend who is a big fan of Roman history and strategy games. As a fan of strategy games, I was eager to try this, and I must say that it is very decent. It depicts the Roman Empire and its surrounding cities, states and empires of the time. It heavily influences research, building, and spy/diplomacy systems to advance in the game, while trading can also be beneficial for some extra income, particularly since some resources are scarce at the start of the game. I don't think this is such a big deal; there are so many different ways to acquire resources; you just need to find it or check out the different things to see how everything works. Now, I understand that some people are conflicted about this issue (game is hard or not enough instructions). I must say that I agree at some point, but overall is not a serious issue at all, as one previous reviewer stated. I, too, enjoy discovering, checking everything, and figuring things out on my own. There is a simple tutorial that covers the main things you need to do to progress in the game. Overall, as I stated at the beginning, I find the game to be very decent; in the sea of Roman-themed games available, it is adequate and can easily consume your time.

WIth heavy heart, but no. Promise and setup of the game is good. Lite 4X focused on Rome is good idea, and given uninspirational Imperator: Rome and older EU: Rome there is suprising lack of good games for the period. Even ancient Centurio stands well, so why not Imperium BCE? There is indeed area for such a game. Brief answer - unfinished game riddled by bugs (or poor decisions). This is early alpha at best, more like technological demo. Creating long list of what is wrong makes little sense, there is simply too much. Just the biggest faults: - sketchy, jumpy controls. Cursor is not moving fluently, but jumps - I have not noticed any AI implemented. Maybe it is there, but it does nothing. - There are 3 kinds "perpetual activity" ("resaearch", "academy", "kingdom activity"). Why? BTW, for research you get message when finished, for other 2 no - no minimap. We speak of full europe and north africa, and max zoom just so so fits sicily on screen - if you send spy or envoy for mission, you must have the target city on screen for mission to complete. Makes no sense - you cannot save game when spy or envoy on mission or war is underway. Only one save slot. No autosave even on exit game. - If being on mission, saving and loading resets mission. Furthermore, even if you complete mission objectives, you must wait until it runs out of time to get rewards. So if you do not have time for several hours sessions, you will never complete mission. But thats OK, half of the missions is "finished" when you start the game (even if in fact they are not) - general lack of information. I have researched Agriculture. The only information is that the crop return has increased. Great, thanks. - poor resource balance. You will have tremendous amounts of food - like 100.000 (hardcoded max) all the time. You can sell 100 each month, if you will not forget to open trade screen each month, click sell, click food and wait month to repeat. Maybe one, two years of development will turn this into surprisingly good game. Now, avoid.

Very annoying in the early going. -there is no indication as to what may be making people not happy (a hover-over info would be more than helpful) -audio stops once I re-load a game (I have go back to the main menu and turn up audio and then reload...what?) -only 1 saved game allowed -constant struggle to figure out what to build or what to do next - tutorial is outside of game and very basic -seems like a guessing game as to how to play - there are lots of building and tech options, but very limited information as to what direction to take or what does what - I can make my own decisions, but everything lacks direction and information - yes, I know one reviewer says that this is fun, and I'm happy to have fun choosing my own direction, but there is too much to figure out on your own. I'm not 12 years old and don't have hours on end to figure out wtf is going on in this game -i've never played a game and been so clueless as to what the hell is going on -want my 30 bucks back

I find this game pretty unique. For the time being,I haven’t played strategy games like this, and this I mean in the best possible way. This is the type of game that doesn’t hand you everything on the silver platter and requires of the player to search, read, and figure out what you need to do;as an old school gamer myself I wish more games today took this approach. Everything is interconnected, to build something you must first research appropriate thing which allows you to build what you wish, to conduct research you must acquire resources, and the one of the simplest ways to obtain resources(for people who are just starting the game) is to enact laws that grants you needed resource for a set period of time. Also,I really like how the spy and diplomacy system was made, because there is the option of taking over cities and states in different ways, and annexing worked well for me. And it's relatively simple to do with a little bit of gold. Of course, you have different options when it comes to conquering or annexing. The visuals, such as the sunlight and moonlight reflecting on the surface of the water and the changing colors of the clouds at dusk and dawn, were particularly appealing to me. I found myself staring at those for quite some time:D Overall, I recommend this game, even though some people may be put off by the slow pace at the beginning or the lack of hints and tips, but believe me, the game is a rough gem and 4 hours flew by for me. I enjoyed it and plan to keep playing it. Cheers :D

This game looks really interesting and could potentially be a fun addition to the list of games of Roman times, but it isn't finished. This is an Early Access release that wasn't labelled Early Access. It really needs a lot of play testing and it should have had a public beta before its release. The reason I say that is that there are a bunch of unusual things in the UI that aren't conventional and just don't work well. For instance, the dev made the pause key ALT, so you cant Alt-Tab without unpausing. This is just one of MANY weirdnesses that prevent this game from being a successfully launch - again, should have been Early Access until this stuff is worked out. Additionally, there is a bunch of missing critical information from the game - like income! Several things you do in the game cost you gold over time or food over time, but there is nowhere in the UI where it shows you your current gold income or food production so you can't tell whether doing something might sink you or whether you can afford it. Likewise without any indication of income it is impossible to know what buildings to buy next. The UI is missing information in almost every dialog - many don't even tell you what they do - for instance, the tutorial says that Tasks can give you bonuses if you complete them but cost you if you don't, yet it doesn't show you anywhere what it will cost you. My advice, give this game a year, if the dev can get enough people playing to provide the Early Access feedback they need maybe this game could be really good!
