Dogfight is an extremely simplistic retro flight sim that, as the name suggests, focuses primarily on dogfighting -- though each of the 12 aircraft on offer do have a "mission" you can plan and fly also, and many of these involve ground attack. Flight model is no-frills -- though admirably different from plane to plane -- and the cockpits are heavily simplified from the real thing. Navigation and targeting is also heavily reliant on MicroProse's "Tacti-View" external views and/or the polygonal "Heads-Up" view; fine for the older planes, but some of the newer craft could really have done with a properly implemented multi-function display. It's a game that is full of flaws, but is still rather fun if you want a no-frills bit of retro flight sim action. There are far better games from the MicroProse stable, but given most of them focus on a single aircraft, none quite as varied as this. Note that the default DOSBOX settings for the game make it run like an absolute dog; in the dosbox.cfg file in the install directory set cputype to 486_slow and cycles to about 20000 or so for much better performance. Don't bump up cycles too much, though -- the game can behave a little strangely at high frame rates! Read more at Retrounite
