Even though I'm in the game, I'm not biased!
The troop management is exceptional for an Indy title. The amount of effort put into the authenticity is unreachable by AAA studios. The developer has come to a lot of us for advice and it shows in the quality of the models & period correct items.
As it continues to progress I'll anxiously await updates to experience the story they're planning on.

A tough and manly little game, I love the fact that we get to play as Saxons defending their homes from the foul Danes. Vikings have been romanticized far too much lately in my opinion. I don't like invaders, I don't like bullies.
A couple of things that I think could be improved upon:
1. Although the format of "bard telling the tale" is charming I think the game could really do without it. I think it takes away from the dire nail biting scenario of standing your ground together with a few good men (whose names you know) against many brutes. It makes the scenario a bit tongue in cheek which it shouldn't be. The combat is gritty and unforgiving, make the whole tone that way.
2. It could use a bit more terrain variation. -> If I try to go with gear and medicine instead of many reinforcements I get overwhelmed in no time.
3. The AI is a bit strange; what I mean here is that most enemies just charge you straight forward while their captains go off on their own and try to flank you. This way they dawdle around and usually get to you much later than the rest of their force and are usually the last guys standing and than easily killed. Would be much more challenging to have these tough opponents actually leading their formations.
4. Finally, I want more! I had a bite and it was great. I can't wait to see more campaigns and scenarios.
Large battles would also be a delight. I'd gladly be willing to pay more for this, either as another game or as dlc. I understand that providing more content for an 8€ game might be a bit daunting for you. Making a sequel would be the best way to go in my opinion.
Cheers, thanks for this little gem.

Hammerheart is Good.
To the few of you who happen to stumble upon this review, let me just begin by saying that Hammerheart is akin to that of a baby dragon in terms of potential. I will not lie, as of this review it lacks a lot of gameplay (I beat the story on my second attempt at 70 mins of playtime), but what's there really shows how incredible this game could be.
It just needs time to mature.
It's a challenging game where initial positioning and troop composition are key, while also requiring you to adapt and react to the evolving situation with each encounter. You can arrange your men into a formation before the enemies arrive, but they'll always be coming from different directions. One mistake such as letting a flank fall could cost you a run as your warriors will never respawn and those who do survive may need to be treated with medicine that you don't have.
Overall, Hammerheart is one of those games that will blossom into something truly unique and challenging given enough time. Somehow, it's a game that I never knew I wanted, yet am happy to have found. If you want a taste for yourself, try the demo, or give it a buy.

I love Hammerheart's setting/theme but as it was my first game it's really poorly made, at least compared to my standards now.
The most realistic scenario for the future would be a new game similar to Hammerheart, with much more polish, content and new features including multiplayer. Maybe free keys for long-time Hammerheart players.
But that's just an idea at the moment and I'm not working on it
from the lead developer
thats all im gonna say.

It's okay but it's been two years since any kind of update or devlog, so it's abandoned. Which is a shame.

Love the concept but the game is extremely punishing, it probably needs a bit of tweaking. Excited for what it could become though, this kind of play style with a Open world could be an amazing game.

Currently in a mess and not worth the time, not worth the price. There was a lot going for this, but the dev decided to completely change gears and remake this from an isometric tactics game and turn it into a mount and blade style game or something from the looks of very sparse dev logs on steam. Don't like the direction it's taking and the dev posted in steam forum that he's got a new full-time job so things will go even slower. if he would just have refined the old isometric experience a tiny bit, it would have been great. but it feels abandoned. skip it.

Great start to an early access game! The combat is fluid and exciting, and your tactical decisions make all the difference. I especially appreciate the research and effort into providing a historically accurate experience, all around (finally, Vikings done right!). The devs are very responsive to feedback, and have already implemented a couple of suggestions I had. The amount of content is pretty meager at the moment, but that is expected as the game is still very early in development, AFAIK.

Dev had to take a dayjob and completion seems really really unlikely. Marked as abandoned until something changes.
