So the only reason I'm giving this game a good review is because I got it on sale, and I think it's worth the sale price, I don't think it's worth the full price though. This is maybe a $5 quality game. Pros: Simple concept and interesting mechanics. Multiple goals, and steady game progression. Fun little Easter eggs and side tasks from visitors. Cons: Very bad late game balance of mechanics. So your troops can get stressed and fatigued, and when these attributes get too high, you can't train your troops. As you play, you unlock stuff that reduces their stress or increases their stamina, but the problem is you unlock all of that stuff, and then there is no more. You have 12 troops, all of them completely stressed and fatigued, and you only have 4 facilities that can fix that, each only allowing one troop to use it per day. What's more is 2 of the facilities are for stamina, and 1 is for stress, and 1 is for both, and it really shows. Stress is basically impossible to deal with if you have a fully upgraded base. All of this could be easily fixed if you could just upgrade the size of the facilities to hold more troops. The actual campaign you fight when the 12 weeks of training is over is cool, but the balance seems really off on that too. Basically all the stats you train besides shooting are inconsequential to the mission. Any stats gained from the mission are so small compared to training stats that they feel pointless. The M.O.D.s you can assign to troops are not very good, because they take a lot of effort to get, and they all have downsides bad enough that is basically cancels out their good sides. I imagine this was intended to encourage the player to diversify so you have several skills that have different roles to fill in combat, but the problem is their up sides are also so niche, they just don't have any particular benefit. I had better luck making all my troops basic infantry than I did trying to assign specialties. Lastly, the training point system gets obnoxious at the end. unless I'm missing something, you have to spend all your training points to finish the training week. There is one way to spend them all at once, which is going on a group run, but if you send a single soldier to do a single thing, the option to spend your remaining points is gone, and you now have to meticulously spend all your points waiting for soldiers to finish their training. The best you can do is send them to the flag pole, which sends them to all 4 training sections once automatically and spends 4 points. There are some facilities that only allow 2-3 soldiers to train on them, and if you set more than that to auto train, it will spend your points and they will not do the training or get stats. Another way to reduce stress and gain stamina is to not train your troops, but if you are forced to spend all your points every day, the only way to not train your troops is to meticulously train a single troop well past the point of full stress and zero stamina so the others can catch a break. And if you do this, you can expect to spend what feels like 10 minutes doing nothing but micro managing a single guy to spend all your points. Suggestions: Make some stats have a bigger impact on the mission, like maybe strength can add to your troops health, or intelligence could reduce reload time, or just something more tangible than what's there. Have more options to reduce stress and restore stamina. Have an option to end the day, and instead of having troops only regain stats from doing nothing, have them regain stats based on the number of training points left, that way there is no downside to having more training points. Nerf the downsides to M.O.D.s so they are at least a little more appealing.
