The tourist is too difficult. So much that I almost got sick of the game

Best survival sim on Steam. Countless options, best realism. No bullcrap with quirks, funsies, but hypothermia, hiperthermia, wounds, dehydration, loneliness and many other issues. Cycles of seasons really place importance on shelter. Confined land really forces strategical decisions about water, crops and hunting. Mystical elements are very light-touched, so they do not interrupt hardcore realist experience - they nicely fit in with allergies, beliefs, grief or psychological issues. There are few playthroughs with supernaturals (mermaid hunted by the seahounds), but if you wish you can just play as a shipwrecker or plane crash survivor.
Also, few other games really emphasized humanity and empathy over post-irony and cynicism and cruelty. Tropical Island does it and does it well.

Amazing game. Fairly difficult but still has the fun factor that it should have. Has some custom settings that you can unlock so you can make it as difficult or as easy as you like in the long term.

Difficult and complicated
But also fair and rewarding
Explore and try to survive a tropical island. Either make it your home or escape .
Hundreds of hours of content, 4 pre-made characters each with their own unique challenges and custom characters you can fire up after that. You won't be disappointed

Absolutely loved this game. I failed my first couple of runs and was beginning to think I just couldn't survive! But I prevailed with a "win" after a very long run. My favorite part about the game? Definitely the way that even though it's "just a card game", your day to day survival really tells a story. There were some moments in the game that will stick with me almost as if I was actually on an island trying to survive - you know, like when I had almost every status effect that you could have and was in my mud hut in the middle of the night trying to cool down and calm down but couldn't sleep because I was too hot. Or trying to feed my befriended macaque who was slightly too hungry / unhappy so he instead bit me so I tried to feed him again so he bit me again. Incredible!

Despite how it looks, this is a very complex and punishing survival game. You go from hoarding coconuts as your only source of food to eventually farming vegetables and keeping livestock. You go from sleeping on a crappy bed of leaves and having monkeys stealing your belongings, to eventually building your own house with a shed and a nice bed.
The mechanics constantly surprised me with how in-depth they are. You might think you hit the jackpot when you find a few banana trees but your character will start getting depressed if you force them to eat literally nothing but bananas for days. If you try to live off coconuts too much you'll get diarrhea. It's actually possible to make certain animals go extinct if you keep hunting the same kinds over and over.
Rainfall is super important for your consistent water source but it's totally random whether it rains or not. I didn't realise this until I went over a month in one game without any rain. At first this seemed really harsh but I think it's better for gameplay as it teaches you not to rely on one source of water/food/protection etc and to constantly be thinking of ways to diversify or to prepare for emergencies.
The only thing I struggle with in this game is repetitiveness. There are different characters or even custom characters that work slightly differently but ultimately you are still in the same jungle with the same locations and same animals and same research tree. So I'll have a lot of fun playing a game for 10~ hours then die stupidly because I lost track of time in the middle of the jungle and couldn't find my way home or something like that, but I need to wait a few months to try again otherwise it feels too same-y. I wish the dev would come out with more iterations of this game like medieval fantasy style so I can swap between them :)
