Abtos Covert Reviews

You are in a remote military outpost at Mount Abtos and you're tasked to guard it. The only things visible from there are an old shrine and the forest. Many are afraid of this infamous outpost because of the local folklore stories. Actually, too many stories... Will you be safe, all alone?

A fine balance between mystery and horror. I really enjoyed the atmosphere as well as the attention paid to tiny bits of detail. I had a great time playing it. Can't wait for more!

Very atmospheric game, it puts you in the shoes of the role of guarding an outpost. But I will not hide that I encountered some crashes and where I was playing I was losing. Seeing other streamers playing this game, I noticed that they leave it at night 2 (I managed to get there on the 4th night). It is very difficult to go further because the game randomly throws enemies at you and many times even if you do what you have to do in the game, you are doomed to lose because everything comes out at the same time. I would like better management of this issue from the developers because it becomes annoying not being able to progress in the game. I know it is a difficult indie game, but especially after the 3rd night you have no hope of progressing because the ΑI of the game does not leave you any room to win, even with power saving and many other things. I would like to This problem could be improved with some future update from the developers, because I don't want to believe that everyone gets stuck at this point.

The AI of enemy NPCs is commendable, reacting dynamically to the player's actions. Each mission feels like a carefully crafted puzzle, encouraging players to strategize and adapt to their surroundings. Abdos Covert successfully balances challenge and reward, making every completed mission a gratifying accomplishment. GJ DEVS UwU :)

I highly recommend this game. You can be really scared only by the atmosphere of it. It can be also very unpredictable because there is no particular way that characters hunt you. So it requires critical thinking and good understanding of your environment. All of the above are major pluses for me
Summary
Great horror game with scary atmosphere and enemies that tests your reactions and resource management skills. Some bugs here and there. For an indie academic project at this price it lived up to my expectations.
I give it a solid 7/10

Pros
The game has a creepy atmosphere and environment, which are supported by the surprisingly good graphics. The outpost with the different props (Greek flag, lockers, broken/malfunctioning stuff, cigarettes etc) capture Greek military life fairly accurately. It can be hard to learn how to beat each enemy type since they have different mechanics, but it's great that the game doesn't hold your hand and instead gives you some tips so that you can figure it out yourself. The jump scares do the job of scaring you but they are not overwhelming and happen just at the right moment. Night 4 and 5 are exceptionally hard for those who aren't quick enough and can't smartly manage resources, but it provides a great challenge that keeps you constantly on your toes. The tapes you collect add decent immersion to the lore of the game and information about the enemies.
Cons
The most obvious bug the game has is not saving your audio settings on every launch, forcing you to go to the settings and re-adjust the sliders which is necessary because it is obnoxiously loud even for a horror game. On the other hand the dialogue volume is inconsistent, sometimes too low or too high and the voice acting lacks in emotion. The game has some rare performance issues where you lose about 10-20 FPS until you restart the night. It is unfortunate that for an indie game it cannot run on low end PCs. On some occasions the enemies all attack at the same time and the cameras go out, leading to game over which is very frustrating since it makes the game a bit RNG-based. Finally, it was a poor choice to include ancient Greek pillars near the church because it looks out of place and breaks immersion. The church itself should have Byzantine architecture with a round brick roof, not a wooden Catholic type with triangular shape.

10/10 the devs owe me a new pair of pants. The creepy atmosphere is very well done making you feel uneasy even where there is no threat. The place you need to defend is neither too big nor too small and the number of things you have to keep in check is also balanced. Overall a great experience!

The atmosphere is incredibly well done. You will never feel safe while playing this. Even when there are seemingly no threats around, you just never know what will come at you, as paranoia kicks in and as your heartrate rises to limits you didn't know were feasible. The game features a good variety of enemies that each require a simple yet unique way to defeat. The graphics are quite impressive for an indie title as well. All in all, a great little indie game made with a lot of passion, that offers a hefty amount of scares.
