I think the best part is how simple it is to figure out whats *been* happening before the end, and it makes you let your guard down right before everything goes down right at the end where youre blindsided by the consequences of your seemingly innocuous actions

This visual novel gives you a character introduced through flashbacks of ptsd and offers an intriguing murder mystery in the snowy mountains. Readers beware, all is not as it seems. Story was enjoyable and interesting and the visuals were quite nice.

a really great game, played the beta a few years back on a different site and it was totally worth buying the finished product and playing through again, only issue is my friends keep simping for Felix

Really good, the art is charming too. Played every ending in one sitting. Personally, I liked the Rumination part of the game even better than the main story. I experienced some things similar to Nick and everything to do with it was written so well, I caught myself thinking "That's exactly how it feels" more than once.

Revisited this title over the weekend and remembered why I fell in love with it the first time: memorable writing, unique art, and a chilling OST to top it off. The sheer horror that Nick endures is so very fantastical but feels real and empathetic all the same. Up All Night is absolutely required reading.

This story is a beautifully grim reality of grief. How its twists anyone to walk through it and views life. There's no sugar coating it. It destroys you and doesn't answer to cries of help. It's just grief. The music leaves you on edge, never reassuring you of your choices. The few sound effects drag you into the feeling of dread and that you are Nick. That you have to do this. That someone here did this. The endings nag at you, the horror of what could have been. But none are rushed. All in their own spotlight of uncomfortable guilt, making you want to replay and get a slightly better ending. The descriptions pulled at me, making me almost physically sick, reminding me of my own accident and the hopeless feeling of not being able to do anything. The warnings are not to be scoffed at.

I liked it well enough but only recommend it on sale. It's pretty short, and there's a lot of repeating dialogue for the 8 endings, but I have to give praise to it even having 8 endings, even if I think the story itself was pretty rushed and had random twists. The CGs themselves are nice and you get used to the tumblr-esque vibe of the sprites. The main selling point here is the writing, I think. There's a lot of visceral descriptions of gore and some good flashback sequences that help us piece together the mystery of the night and the bigger picture of why Nick is even there in a really cool way. I cringed at a lot of the descriptions in the best way, and I like a lot of body horror stuff. Only issue I really had, and almost left a negative review on this for, was with the characters themselves. Nick and Grayson were super hostile to Felix and from my experience of the game, I actually really liked Felix. It felt like he got a lot of abuse from the other two in a weird, hypocritical way purely for having less empathy and not torturing himself like they did. A lot of the time, I felt myself going "What? Nick, no, why are we being a dick to him right now?". His overly hostile attitude to one character he'd briefly met mixed with the fact he was insta-best friends with the other character had me really unsympathetic to his issues and flashbacks - and I found myself rolling my eyes at his crying and snivelling. If he'd been polite to both characters, I might've cared more. But being a bit weird didn't excuse the way Nick treated Felix, imo. Maybe because Felix felt a little neurodivergent and I felt Nick was quick to judge someone who could've easily just had autism or ASPD. And I'm not the only one who was confused by this, I've found. But I suppose that's my fault for caring about the interpersonal relationships of characters in what is primarily a horror game. Good waste of a couple hours. Don't buy it full price. I'll be trying out Remnants of Dawn. -- Edit For Rumination Found Rumination in the gallery, which is a short experience of the aftermath from Nick's new therapists pov. I enjoyed that more than the main story, so I'm looking forward to more form this universe.

An excellent horror story with well-written characters! Chilling atmosphere. Although there are many endings, none of them feel rushed - each path gives you more insight into the mystery and the characters' motivations. Also, unlocking the secret bonus scene is so worth it.

I haven't heard of Fiendish Fiction before but they sure have their fingers on the pulse of horror. This game is a horror lover's dream. Amazing storytelling, beguiling visuals, and a haunting soundtrack give this game all it needs for a truly scary treat and all just in time for Halloween. Pick this one up if you're looking for something that's sure to keep you up all night.

I'm a big fan of horror movies, horror games, horror books and pretty much anything that is designed to try and scare you.. Most of the time I'm left with a slight chuckle but never truly scared (this game isn't going to scare me or you) except the Ring,, for some reason that long hair girl and her jump scares were too much.. It didn't help that the first time I watched the movie someone actually called me..... like right in the middle of the movie, seriously right when one of the characters was getting a call after watching the tape.. Soooooo.. anyway.. If you like scary stuff, this game might tickle your fancy.. Story - you play as Nick, a recent high school graduate, a man suffering from numerous mental ailments after having a "grisly tragedy" befall him.. His mother decided it would be a great idea to take him to a remote cabin in the woods, in order to let his emotions have a chance to rejuvenate or get jiggy wit it.. (sorry this isn't Cherry Kiss games, no getting jiggy in this visual novel) The story is rather simplistic in nature, and takes about 20 minutes to read through for a single time.. Gameplay - normal visual novel fare, you scroll through various pages, reading the words, making choices (about 15 in this game) and then you get an ending based upon your choices.. Nothing ground breaking, but still fun to read.. at least until you get tired of reading everything around the 2nd playthrough.. Pro's Interesting storyline Interesting double twist Well written (which is nice in a steam visual novel) Very simplistic in it's approach (could be a negative, as it's rather short) Con's Not enough graphic content (the story goes there, but the artwork doesn't) Could be a big longer (yeah I know I said it was a pro, but also a con) Price tag for content delivered. (6.99 for about 20 minutes) Had the game weirdly crash at a random point and force me to rollback.. Recommendation The price tag of 6.99 is kind of steep for the content delivered, BUT, the content which is delivered is pretty good.. If you're going into it expecting a visual novel with lots of gory graphics (considering the content) you'll be disappointed, the most you get is a blood stains on various objects.. Which doesn't really replace the fact of seeing what is being talked about.. You're a horror visual novel so act like it and show me the goods.. You don't watch Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday the 13th to only hear about the kills off screen do you? With that said I'd recommend buying the visual novel, while it has some issues as far as length, and lack of graphical content, it is still a good read, and the twist or twists, almost makes it worth the price of admission.. If 6.99 is too much, wait for a sale, but do yourself a favor if you like horror stories, this might be a good bite sized one to grab..
