Deadlink – Something About It Just Feels… Off
Deadlink is your typical arena shooter, and while it tries to stand out with a cyberpunk aesthetic and a unique upgrade system, there’s just something about it that feels cheap and cheesy in a way I can’t quite put my finger on. The gameplay itself isn’t necessarily bad, but nothing about it kept me wanting to play. The upgrade system feels like a Walmart version of Cyberpunk, lacking the depth or excitement that could have made it engaging. The story doesn’t do it any favors either—it’s too silly to immerse yourself in, making it hard to care about the world or what’s happening in it. Even the concept art is a turn-off, which is never a great sign. I do think that with better developer direction, this game could have gone somewhere, but as it stands, I just don’t like it. Maybe it’s the balance, maybe it’s the presentation, but something about Deadlink just doesn’t click. Hard no on the recommendation.

Fantastic shooter thats well worth the price. The combat loop is fun and the game is hard enough to keep you having fun while learning it. There are a good amount of upgrades to work on while collecting xp every run so your next run is even better. Highly recommend you give it a try if you like doom style or fast paced fps games.

pretty good roguelike shooter. movement feels nice, classes are very different and difficulty is there.

It was kind of fun but not nearly as dynamic as I'd hoped. I played it and then forgot about it until I started clearing storage space. Probably a good buy at 5-10 buck.

I'm not normally a big roguelike fan, but this one hooked me. It's a well-tuned combination of the roguelike mechanic (with a skill tree that grants permanent upgrades) and FPS gameplay. Pros: - The game slowly adds mechanics as you play, so despite the depth of what there is to do here, it is never overwhelming. - Progression feels natural and steady. It's usually not difficult to add a new skill from the skill tree every few runs, which keeps the game feeling fresh. - 4 different character classes also helps with replayability. At 15 hours of gameplay, I've really only focused on 1 of those classes, and have hardly touched the other 3. - The FPS combat itself is well-crafted. Movement feels fluid, and the combat is satisfying. The inclusion of "stages" is also a nice touch- the transition from one stage to the next gives you a minute to relax and prepare yourself mentally for the next round of combat. Cons: - There's some variation/randomness to the stages that you work your way through, but honestly a bit more variety in this would be nice. It doesn't take long before the level architecture starts to get kind of stale. - The soundtrack isn't bad, but it's also just kind of... there. I think the game would really benefit from a dynamic soundtrack that changes in response to your actions and the environment in the moment.
