It's okay. If you come from more hardcore survival/crafting games, it might become stale pretty quick. The combat is pretty bad. The islands feel samey and get boring. Probably good for kids. Building is fine. It's just missing something.

I really wish I could have played this game more, but it crashed every time I saved and every time the game auto-saved!
I even verified the integrity of the game files, which solved the issue temporarily (I was able to save twice in a row), but the game crashed again after I flew on my glider the first time and tried to save on the first island I landed on.
I did get a refund, but I hope this issue gets resolved as the game did seem interesting at the very beginning.

As is the pace dies quickly after the first zone, you go to cleanse islands and fix habitats for... literally nothing for a grand majority of it. Seriously if it didn't take 5hrs to get to that point it wouldn't be so immensely frustrating. Devs please understand I very much love the vision for this game, however at this pace I might as well go play darksiders one(that isnt a compliment in this context).

This is one of the best examples of cosy survival out there and it's only just in early access.
If you are looking for a game you don't have to commit lots of time to, to enjoy, this is a good bet. You can easily play for an hour or so and still feel you've made progress. The game is about exploration and building, whilst drifting your own little homestead around an endless sky.
The combat isn't complex but is enjoyable enough. Building is easy and is the first game where building rooftops hasn't made me want to jump off of one. There's cute little decorations and using building parts together is easy enough so you can make a cosy little base. There's farming and gathering and inventory management is easy and intuitive. You can kind of creature collect too, adding plants and critters to your own or other islands. The game play loop seems to be about restoring islands ecosystems, gathering to improve your own island and moving onto the next area.
A criticism of the game I see on the reviews is that the main story is short. I am not yet out of the first area and I'm 12 hours in. I think if you are willing to view this as a sit and relax kind of game, where you just take some time to build and explore each island, it'll be plenty rewarding.
Can't wait to see what they do with the game, highly recommend if you are just looking for something to relax to for a little bit and love survival esque games.

Bought myself and the SO a copy of this game each just to find out it constantly crashes whenever hosting a coop. After digging through forums, the discord and wiki and not being able to find any other support other than "Pay for a server hosting" I hate to say that I wont recommend.

Pretty much every island was different. I'm pretty sure they are procedurally generated. The graphics are beautiful and its a beautiful game in general. The game is well balanced and worth every penny. I have beaten this game. It wouldn't have taken me 116 hrs, but I wanted to visit 90% of the islands. This is a great game if you like to build and craft at home while your friend explores.
9.5 out of 10
Early access gripes and suggestions:
The building system is great, but I wish the pulleys added correctly. I had nothing running and it was docking 15 power when I connected 3 separate networks. Unless the network is setup in a daisy chain, I think this bug occurs.
The flight system was pretty good, I just wish taking off was smoother. I found myself mashing the jump button because of too much trees.
The game is not too grindy. I had stacks and stacks of stuff I didn't need. Anchors were not unlocking anything after I unlocked all the sailing stuff. They should unlock something even if it's decorations.
As someone who likes butterflies, I made a butterfly house. I had to use the vitrium rather than the habitat in my butterfly house. This made me sad, but it ended up being okay. The habitats are buggy. I could not get any burrowing habitats to work on my home island and butterfly habitats did the same on other islands. I still got my butterflies though.
The resource buff should stack or be increased. If stacking, it should appear twice in effects. A player should not get the lowest normal amount of a resource when this buff is active. I found that to be annoying.
How combat is taught needs work. I never used it except for the dash, but the dash would often chose a target other than what I was looking at. I found that charging my strike was faster to harvest resources so I used that in combat.
If you make a fairly large base, your frames will drop. I'm running a GeForce 3070. I had a pretty loaded island and it certainly dropped below 60fps after I built my butterfly house.
An automatic watering system is needed. Rain doesn't seem to do anything. I farmed a lot of crops and it was annoying watering my crops in the rain.
The upgrade station is genius but the interface needs work. I used an Xbox controller for my play through so I'm not sure if it was that. I thought the station was bugged. They need to up the contrast on the selector at the top.
I really like how if you put the wrong thing in a box, you can push the button again to get it back.
I like how there is a clothing to increase your tool slots. I still wish there were more slots total and more back pack storage.
I really liked the buried treasure. It was perfectly balanced. I only gave up on finding one.
In my 90% play through, I never found stone stairs that went rotated the other way like the wood ones. This made me sad.
While it's very clever, I didn't like the wood support beam. I ended up using the fence poll. There should be an alternative option here if possible.

I'm giving this game a positive vote because there are many elements that are well-realized and the building mechanics are top notch. There are good bones and potential here, a colorful and pleasing graphical style, positive feelz, and the whole turning a floating island into an airship thing is very original and appreciable. Also this is a rare example of a game that does not bother you with item durability, and inventory space is pretty generous.
But other than that - at the moment - Aloft is a very shallow and kind of boring title. And i'm not a guy who gets bored easily.
There are only faint traces of story or lore, a very vague trail to follow, and the things you have to do island per island are a dreary, repetitive grind that leaves you absolutely famished for anything new, which you never get until the very end (of the current content).
With the exception of a few unique hand-crafted places, the islands all look alike. There's three biomes but the only difference between two of them is basically just the color of the grass and trees. I explored them all because of my own maniacal perfectionism, but i had zero practical reason to do it.
After that there is zero post-game, and the challenge factor is almost non-existent, with kindergarten level combat against enemies that look and act goofy at best, and no punishment for death.
So yeah, give it a try if you like the genre, but only on sale, and don't expect much.

Buggy, a lot of crashes, worst procedural generation i have ever seen( Islands with mechanical handles and secret rooms that lead to nowhere and wastes your time). If these problems gets fixed there is still the problem of being forced to search every single island you have come across which gets boring quite fast especially since islands are badly generated and not worth your time %80 of the time. These will probably get ironed out in time but till then stay away.

I will change this to positive once the game gets optimized. But the really low performance makes it difficult for me to recommend it to anyone at all at this point. The rest is great, just small bugs and tweaks as well as general content and this game is good to go, AFTER they have optimized it. Not like this, not like this...
