Nocturnal is an approachable action-platformer that offers a short, streamlined experience. It keeps players moving forward at a brisk pace, rarely interrupting the action, which can be both a strength and a minor frustration—especially for those looking to collect everything in a single run. However, with the option to replay individual levels after completion, this concern is mitigated.
Clocking in at around two hours of playtime (despite the game's estimate of three), Nocturnal does not overstay its welcome. Its length feels appropriate given its current mechanics, and while it may not leave a lasting impression, it's an easy game to see through to the end. Completionists will find it accessible, as earning all achievements is very doable without excessive effort.
The combat, while serviceable, leans toward the passive side. Enemies are distinct and repeat throughout the game, but their relatively low health pools keep encounters snappy and prevent the combat from dragging. The true highlights of the game are its bosses, with three in total. These fights require more active engagement, encouraging players to dodge attacks and learn patterns. The first boss, in particular, stands out as the best of the bunch.
Visually, Nocturnal excels. The art direction is striking, and the soundtrack complements the experience well. The game also delivers a story that remains unobtrusive, allowing players to stay focused on the action without excessive exposition.
Given its brief length, Nocturnal feels like a proof of concept for a potential sequel. If the developers expand upon its mechanics and refine its combat, there’s plenty of potential for a deeper and more engaging follow-up. As it stands, Nocturnal is a fine choice for those looking for a visually appealing, bite-sized action game. However, players seeking a longer, more involved experience may not find the value they’re looking for.
If you're drawn to the art style and enjoy compact, straightforward action games, Nocturnal is worth checking out. Just don’t expect a game that will stick with you long after the credits roll.

Short but oh so sweet. A good looking game with amazing music.
Movement feels crisp and the game has great mechanics. Good clean combat. Only thing that rubbed me wrong was the amount of stun the enemies had.
For a game that has secret areas, I would have liked to have clearer indication where the story goes or the ability to backtrack more. But after beating the game, level select lets you easily go check the areas you missed.
PS controller is supported.

Great little platformer with good combat and fantastic artwork.
It is a little short, but the devs state there's around 3hrs gameplay on the store page, so I can't complain.

A short, non-sophisticated, easy platform game.
Q: Would I recommend? A: No, unless it's heavily discounted and you don't mind playing boring and easy platform game.

1) Uh... Fire and darkness special effects are... unique? Maybe?..
[-]
1) One-dimensional
Roll, hit, repeat - that's all you need to finish this game in a breeze.
2) Lack of smoothness
For some reason, almost every hit pauses/stutters the animation, making it jumpy.
3) Easy bosses
Every boss (and there are only 3 or 4) is just an ordinary monster, but with 2 phases and some additional skills.
Conclusion: 4/10

Very fun and polished game. Smooth action, pretty environments, good level design, fun concept and execution, decent enough challenge, the music is okay.
Only downside is its very short length.
