If you are a beginner in learning Japanese, I can recommend this game.
You won't learn the language to a native level with this game, but you will learn a lot of basic, everyday words and expressions that will give you a nice start in learning Japanese. What I like about Shashingo is that the developer of the game managed to make the educational process interesting and gamified, which is something I have never experienced before. Basically this game is like learning words with cards, like in Anki, but here it is much more interesting and due to this the words are memorized much easier. At the moment there is not much content in the game, but even though I have already photographed all the objects in it, I still want to come back to this game every time, because besides the repetition of words it gives me a feeling of comfort and calmness, which is a great acheivement for an educational indie game. But I hope that in the future this game will have more new words and different interactions.

This game is very relaxing and a great way to learn & add new words to your Japanese vocabulary. If you are just here for a picture taking game it also has amazing options to take and customize your photos/flash cards with amazing scenery as well! 10/10

Best language game I've played so far. I've visited Japan alot and the setup of this city is spot on. Lots of effort went into this game as you can take photos of practically everything (which you can then test yourself on). If there's an additional town/city/area in the future as DLC, I'll definitely pick that up, as for now I still have a ton of new words to master.

great way to learn if you already have a basic understanding of hiragana and katakana. A little short of a run time but still is fun and captures the feel of Japan very nicely. Would be cool to see nps's in an update who would talk to you and you could give set replies that you would be quized on. As a way to expand natural japanese speaking and listening

Incredibly relaxing game, beautiful graphics and a stunning bgm. This really helps as a Japanese learning tool, as it helps to apply the immersion learning method. You basically "live" in Japan through this game, learning about words, nouns, adjectives, all while exploring. There's even a really nice guidebook that covers some basic conversation and Japanese grammar rules. Also, any lover of photography like myself would instantly love this game. The photo taking is so intuitive and beautiful.

It's nice and cozy. And that's it. I wish it had more theme related locations - like inside of a grocery store or a family house. Currently it only has 1 big location outside with every kind of shops but you can't go inside. You can only see things that are displayed in front. I barely made 100+ photos on that location. The only thing i hate about this game is... i took a photo of glasses. Glasses are placed somewhere you can't think of. It is not theme related, they are just forgotten. And it seems to be the only pair of glasses you can find. The real problem is it requires you to remember all the locations you took photos from. Sometimes i only give up on word because i don't remember it's placement even if i know it's meaning. It is not only about the glasses, trust me. It is true that it lacks of content. It is a way to increase your vocabulary when you know nothing, yes. But not so much. I love the idea but it really needs more content, more words, more mechanics. And also do not forget that this game is not a place to learn this whole language. It is a tool to remember some stuff so you could ask directions to a particular place.

This product seemed great at first but lack of content is insane. I have waited so long for content so long. Nothing. I feel as though this was simply just abandoned and i'm tired of waiting. I feel scammed. The map is very small you can walking throughout the whole map in 2 minutes. There are some inconsistencies with what can be translated and what cant. Over all this is a demo, not a full game. I regret purchasing as a 25$ price tag isnt worth less then an hour of content. I would understand if they actually made updates. But no they do not.
