Fight of Steel: Infinity Warrior is by far the best Digital Crafter game I've played. The art style is much more appealing, their animation improved a lot from their previous games and the gameplay is also much smoother. While it takes the "formula" of it's predecessors in some aspects, I feel the combo potential and specially the addition of EX specials greatly improves the experience, on top of both stage and HUD design being more interesting and colourful (though I wish they'd use a more stylized font as opposed to basic Calibri regular). I also quite enjoy the music (enough to purchase the soundtrack), which makes me wish we had more stages to pick from, since the selection we do have is, for the most part, solid. Customizing the robots is obviously the main selling point here, and while I greatly appreciate what was done with them, specially getting to customize stances, walk animations, intros and victory poses and not just the move sets, I feel like there could have been some improvements. Firstly, colours. You cannot recolour specific sections of a robot part. For instance, the default Zero head has a grey face, baby blue eyes and gold accents around the back of the head and jaw, with a baby blue trim. I can only recolour the grey part and nothing else. This is a problem that applies to pretty much every part, some more than others, and I feel like it hampers creativity in the way that multi coloured parts will inevitably get in the way of certain colour combinations, since your choice may not blend well with the remaining colours that you can't change, and it's a shame there wasn't an update to fix that. On the topic of updates, I feel like the game's potential wasn't fully realised, since it only got updates with 3 seasonal designs and 2 fighting styles (based on the Jesus and Buddha designs from Digital Crafter's Fight of Gods game), and the winning robots from a design contest, which they only did once. At one point, the lack of more animations to choose from, in the way of walk cycles, intros and victories and such became more apparent as well, with the more robots I created, same thing with special moves. While I appreciate the addition of Challenge Mode to mix up the gameplay a bit and unlock more customization items, I feel like the idea could have used more depth. Instead of just picking elemental parts that can damage your opponent's element more, I feel like other RPG mechanics like passive benefits or even tying certain special moves to parts that give you access to more powerful attacks (let's say, a flamethrower move to fight ice robots) would have made it more interesting to go through. Similarly, I feel like the game could have used more game modes, specially since Arcade already functions with randomized opponents (with your last winning creation serving as the final boss). I feel like Survival would have made the game infinitely replayable, since no opponent would ever be the same (even more so if, again, the developers had added more customization stuff across the board). Perhaps even include power ups, in similar fashion to other fighting games like Garou Mark of the Wolves or DNF Duel. I also enjoyed the addition of a Story Mode. While the story itself isn't anything breathtaking, it does a good enough job of exploring aspects of this strange new world, that is just as alien to the protagonist as it is to us. Even if the amnesiac protagonist trope is a bit overdone, I did enjoy learning more about the game's setting, and specially the plot twist of one of the endings, which I will not spoil. And much like everything else, the story has a lot of potential and I really wish there was more! Do not misunderstand my intent however. I don't meant to imply the experience is half baked, not at all. What I mean is that the game has, in my opinion, a solid foundation, it just needs more content to sink our teeth into!
