Wholesome and comforting. If you're a fan of The Legend of Zelda fan, specifically if A Link to the Past, or A Link Between Worlds: then you will have a good time. The art style is also amazing too.

Very neat idea where you alternate between 2D and 3D to solve puzzles. The story is more cute and endearing than challenging, I was smiling through the whole thing!

I'm kinda split on this one. It's a great polished game clearly crafted with alot of love, but its just a bit short imo for full price. If you can get this on a steam sale probably worth it but its a very short game you can 100% this with around 7h+

Mid, story focused. kinda interesting minigames. Due to my own bias i'm never gonna like story driven games, but, this game has a "skip game" button and not a "skip cutscene" button.
Very easy 100%, but play with a guide open if you wanna 100% it, as there are barebones replayablilty and the select chapter button puts you into an unskippable cutscene so when i missed a single collectable at the ass-end of chapter 4 I had to play thru all the story and then I forced a key into a wall and couldn't save/quit cuz i had selected "replay chapter" and not "restart chapter" cuz i wasn't sure if i could reset chapters over and over, or go forwards afterwards, so I got to play thru that WHOLE CHAPTER AND ALL THE CUTSCENES AGAIN.

A delightful gem of a game! I would absolutely recommend it. While there are moments that are a bit rough and might've benefited from another round of polishing, the overall experience is a blast. The children's storybook artstyle is incredibly charming. The 3D platforming is fine... but even in those sections it's the intermingling with the 2D sections that exude creativity in terms of level design. There are some fun details to notice if you're paying attention to what's in Sam's room in the 3D sections. It's not a big epic AAA game, but for a 10 hrs-ish adventure/platformer, it's a great experience.

Really creative and fun game.
Short and sweet. Worth the price tag.
Has the same kind of atmosphere as It takes two.
I recommend checking the box of "streamlined dialogue" cuz hold shit otherwise.

Cool and unique ideas and very good presentation. Gameplay has a lot of variety, though the main combat is a bit thin. Still a really good time and a game that you should definitely pick up if the look of it interests you.

Amazing art, crazy good animations, very cool ideas and still somehow one of the most boring games I’ve ever played. Felt like a chore.

There are a small few niche cases where The Plucky Squire could end up being someone's favorite game. But ultimately, if you've played even one more decent top-down Zelda-like game, it comes across as lacking substance.
Addressing the elephant in the room: The art direction is amazing, impeccable, insert superlative here. Putting aside that I personally am in love with the Adventure Time, Burnt Toast-like art style of the book sections, there is just so much love and care put into all of the Plucky Squire's environments that you could spend hours just poking around and seeing everything.
And to its credit, the gameplay that is here is generally polished, with no real bugs, soft locks, or glitches to report, at least on PC. Enemies get whacked with a satisfying thunk (with the comic-book words to go with it), and some of the puzzles are quite clever in their execution.
But for a game that has so much charm and heart, it lacks substance. The story is completely linear. The narrator and characters telegraph your direction whenever you as the player are to "figure things out" and the game just hands you the solution - even in Streamlined mode, and even without asking for a hint. It isn't insulting, but it's the type of hand-holding that has the potential to turn experienced players off. It's not that the game is too easy - rather, it forcibly takes the challenge away from the people that play it.
Is the game targeted at younger audiences? Perhaps targeted toward those who have played mobile or casual games up to this point? It's unclear.
Nevertheless, I enjoyed my time with the Plucky Squire. I hope that developer All Possible Futures takes what they have learned with the game's art direction and applies it to a future game that rewards players for coming up with the solution themselves, instead of handing the solution on a platter (or in this case, a text box).
My playthrough took around 6.5 hours. I finished the main story, bought all of the combat upgrades, and collected just over half of the optional collectibles.

The Plucky Squire has to have one of the more unique game mechanics of the games I've played thus far. Take into consideration it's one of my first platformers as well, played the game 90% on the steam deck and was a relatively smooth experience, some minor freezes when transitioning from 3D to 2D and vice versa but overall no crashes at all.
You can really tell the game was made with a lot of love and thought from its developers and it shows itself through the gameplay. Story-wise was fresh without much feeling of repetitiveness throughout the game. Though I played it on the lowest difficulty, it felt like the balance of the game difficulty was inconsistent. i.e. it goes pretty smoothly difficulty wise most of the game, but you experience a sudden hike of difficulty on the last chapter, I would expect it to be a similar experience for the normal and hard difficulties as well.
Most of the minigames throughout the story mode was incredibly fun as well, I just wished there was an option in the gane menu to play just the minigames (or maybe it hadn't showed up even though I finished the story credits).
In conclusion, an extremely fun game with a unique take on the platform genre. Quite the family friendly game content wise so would also recommend the game for kids or adults looking for a chill time, it hit right in a feels for me as an adult with a self proclaimed young heart. The transitions between the 2D and 3D world were fun, though I personally do wish to have more 3D cuts throughout the game.
Gameplay completion: ~8hours,
very frequent save points (autosave) so you can easily play whether or not you prefer to play in long sessions or short sessions. I played the game in multiple sessions over 2 months and had no issue returning to the game after a week or 2 i.e. you don't really forget where you're at in the story even if you stop playing it.
Overall rating: Solid 8/9 , get it on a sale or even full price to support the developers' work into this project - they did not hold back in assets or story.
