Heard about this game via word of mouth and I'm so glad that I checked it out! Insect Adventure offers some unique avenues for combat, that are so satisfying and yet simple enough to let good old-fashioned metroidvania exploration shine through. I'm writing all of this as of the recent 1.5 update, which I can tell the dev put a lot of care into to make the game more comfortable to play.
When our heroes Bugsy and Mayo are reunited, you can switch between melee attacks and ranged attacks on the fly, giving you a good amount of moves and tech to figure out to tackle your obstacles. I love the combo meter mechanic, as the means of getting stronger are ways to get more hits in instead of a flat damage increase.
The story isn't a huge highlight, but I did enjoy it. It lays itself out and wraps itself up in a way that feels satisfying. I did a couple sequence breaks on my first run, which I'm happy to say that there are many of which to figure out, and it didn't feel like I was missing anything big by doing so! Given the scale of the areas and the variety of stuff available in each one, the general scope of this game is honestly very generous for $10 and I think the dev deserves more for the game in its current state.
