I love this game. It is my idea of the PERFECT JRPG!! So I recommend it based on that. Prior to December 2024, the game had a HUGE PROBLEM with a "memory leak" crash that would happen anytime you had a transition screen. Into battle, exiting a battle, moving from one zone to another... it was VERY FRUSTRATING and made the game unplayable in the second half because the effects got worse the farther into the game you got. BUT THEY FIXED IT with a hotfix patch in December 2024!! So now I can 100% recommend the game!! I can also now finish the game, before the patch I was permanently stuck at a point about 2/3 of the way through the story because it would crash every time I moved. BUT IT IS FIXED NOW!!! hooray! So yes the game is fantastic and I'll tell you why. The plot: you play a group of kids who enjoy video games. They just started playing a MMO that is insanely popular, and they want to speed-run to reach max level. Some of the action takes place IRL in a fictional city where they all live as neighbors. But most of the game happens inside the MMO. The writing: (for the English translation at least) is pretty good, the humor is there. The game makes fun of itself and other MMO games and gamers quite a bit, in a tongue-in-cheek sort of way, but the jokes are never too corny to the point of feeling juvenile or stupid. The questing: never feels like "work" but there is a little bit of a grind to it if you want all the achievements. There are main story quests that lead you through the game, and side quests as well that give you additional rewards and help you score achievements. But they're not all "fetch quests" or "kill X number of monsters" a lot of them put a fresh spin on the side quest thing. The graphics: are pretty good, but not so much that you need a NASA supercomputer to run it. It's cute. The music: is okay for a video game soundtrack. But after a while it gets a bit repetitive so I put on some Soundcloud and turned the game music off. The combat: is FUN, turn-based, and skills-based. But it is also REALLY easy. Like, you have to do something very wrong to get a game over in this one. But they do have a "hard mode" if you want a bit more of a challenge. They want the focus to be on the story and the exploration of the world, and combat is just there to mix things up, and in that sense it works really well in my opinion. Each of your characters has their own set of skill trees, and you can switch your skills around ANYTIME, FOR FREE!! So if Logs as his default water-bender isn't getting it done for you, you can just refund all his skill points and make him an air-bender instead, or whatever. You start out as a member of the Empire faction. There are two other player factions and one NPC faction in the game, too. And the whole point of the story is that your group starts your own Guild and decides to play as "factionless" meaning you switch factions repeatedly instead of playing through the whole game as the Empire. For a LONG TIME in the beginning, you'll only be in the Empire. But then you will have FORCED opportunities to change factions, until you complet a story arc for each faction. Then you unlock the ability to switch factions at will. Certain side quests require you to be in a certain faction, so Empire quests can't be completed if you're in the Coalition or the Order, etc. So basically you swap factions in order to cherry-pick the quest lines that give you the best rewards, instead of being loyal to one faction. This allows you to levelup faster than anyone else ever has before!! Bottom line: it is FUN and I LOVE IT. If you like RPG's, you should try it.
