I drew Cloud Strife pouring boiling milk on a steak
...and other incredible Doodle Dash prompts.
If you've ever played games like Drawful or Gartic Phone, and wished it had pen pressure, or more artist friendly features - this is the game for you!
I had the absolute pleasure of being a beta-tester for Doodle Champs, so I've already played a lot of the beta - but today I bought the official release and sat down to try 1.0.
Doodle Champs has inspired me to dust off my old, ancient Wacom Bamboo tablet and draw again - and I'm having a blast.
The gameplay
For starters, each game mode is excellent in it's own way.
My favourite is Art Assembly , which is not only fun to play with a group but also on your own! The nostalgia of folding up a piece of paper and drawing the different parts of the body on each side just makes this one hit different.
I also want to give a special shout-out to Doodle Dash , which is genuinely helping me improve my art skills by having me draw the insane (hilarious) prompts under a snappy time limit. (See title).
Canvas Crew is also peak cosy - you can have a chill doodling night on a shared canvas with friends, listening to your own music (or the excellent soundtrack, which I'll get to).
Pencil Pushers will have you cry laughing from the absurdity of the prompts and the way your clients read them. This one forces you to think outside the box and come up with the weirdest ideas. Also, Bossman haunts me in my dreams.
The overall experience
Part of what makes Doodle Champs such a good time is the polish:
- The UI is so charming and fun
- The sound effects scratch an itch in my brain
- The soundtrack slaps (I actually keep getting it stuck in my head)
Overall - I think Doodle Champs is my new favourite party game, and you should check it out.

Great casual game, really entertaining to do the prompts, and cause some chaos on my friends' art. The music is quite charming, the ui is simple but easy to navigate.
I would say this game helps on my art skills, especially on how fast i can produce a piece. I will say its more entertaining to play it with friends.

A wonderful party game with a ton of potential to become one of the greatest art party games out there.
I was pleasantly surprised to see some shortcuts like cntrl+z to work whilst drawing being able to control some of the themes in order to play something more custom to pop culture I'm familiar with.
For those interested, I played it on a Wacom intuos 16 inch and the game runs wonderfully on it. Can recommend!

Music is gold (I would listen to the soundtrack even before the game came out), sound design is great, the style is very fun and I enjoyed creating characters in art assembly mode.

The game as of now feels pretty shallow, however I feel with enough time the game could exponentially grow.
I give a recommend as it's a way to support the creators and it would be good to have on standby in case something does happen. But what needs to happen are;
>More players
>More game modes
>The option to change canvas size in Canvas mode
>A possible feature to allow people who don't own the game to join via browser
That way I feel this game would become a genuine competitor to Gartic phone and Magma

Loving this game. It has such a fun and simple interface to play something chilled with friends and have a laugh. The different game modes are a hoot! It's also nice to know that it's just as nice and easy to use for a mouse user like me. Strongly recommended!

help i can't stop making silly creatures in art assembly mode that have disproportionately short arms
this game is very fun and scratches an itch in my brain in a way that other party games don't. also something about the general design makes every drawing i make look 10x better than it would anywhere else, which is honestly very impressive. i would highly recommend it, even to non-artists!!!

It obvious a lot of work went into this, which makes it harder for me to right this review. Though it has a lot of charm and some nice tools, its missing some basic tools and features that I feel would really enhance the game play. 4 players is pretty limited for a drawing party game. No layers in doodle dash/ no dedicated line tool. In Doodle Dash, only the host can generate prompts. Being able to change the time and certain aspects of each game is nice, but this collection of games is not an significant improvement from similar products (Gartic Phone, Jack box and Magma studio). With the comparison to Jackbox, you pay 20 dollars, but that's all you have to pay. With one copy, your friends can join in with just their tablet or phone. With this, everyone you want to play with has to pay 12 dollars. That's not including tablets if you want pen pressure.
I really wanted to like this game, but ended up feeling disappointed. With other overall cheaper/free options out there that have better tools/better replay ability, its hard to recommend doodle champ. Maybe with some updates and more game modes, that could change.
