Really good iteration on a classic genre, loved it. The variety between classes is great, so it's a lot different facing the same boss with a each of the 3 classes. Adding on top of that is the fact that each boss fight requires you to reconsider if the selected build and abilities are the best choice for that specific boss, so it's a lot of fun coming up with different strategies. Music was on point. I would really appreciate it if you make the upgrades screen accessible in the ability selection screen, so it's easier to go back and forth when coming up with a new build.

Woow, I just finished the game, the bosses were amazing to beat all of them. Well yes after some pain and cry I managed to beat them all.
The game overall is fun to play, I really like the auto shoot game mechanic plus paired with life steal... awesome!
However I am not a big fan of games that have too many stuff on the screen and glowing, that was irritating me, somewhere in the middle I got used to it and the first few bosses were problematic due to this.
Definitely I am waiting for the second journey through the Sol system!
And btw the music makes the game!

This isn't a difficulty curve, it's a difficulty elevator shaft.

Good bosh rush game with lots of replayability. You choose your weapons before each fight, and on top of that there are 3 ship types, each with their own unique set of weapons and abilities. I've played through it with one ship, now starting over with another and while the bosses are the same, the weapons are all different so it's a whole new challenge.
It's very reminiscent of classic flash-based boss rush games, but with far better graphics and audio. The fights are only a few minutes each, but I think they're just the right length. Longer would be grindy, shorter would just be unsatisfying. Overall, a very well made arcade-style indie game.

I think it's a very good game, it just need some quality of life features, like back buttons for some screens, like for the screen where you choose your abilities, so you can go back to the screen where you choose the mission.
Also a menu button after you lose to retry the mission using the last chosen abilities would be good, so you don't have to go to the abilities selection screen.
Also would be good to remember the last selected abilites in the abilities selection screen.
Sounds for the enemies and their projectiles that don't have sounds would be nice too if they are made not loud and not annoying.
Cloud saving would be nice too.
Score: I give it a 4.5 of 5 stars.
Conclusion: Basically a hidden gem. I'm surprised it hasn't been reviewed by more people. I'm happy with the purchase.

This game... sheesh. What a game. Bosses are difficult, not unbeatable (granted there are some OHKOs) and the music was way better than it should have been. I would have expected a lot worse of a soundtrack but the boss themes go hard as hell. You don't have to press a button to shoot, just aim with the mouse. Tthere are a ton of abilities and passives AND you can equip a lot at once to the point where you can really feel like an endgame character before you've reached the end, which is awesome. Oh, boy, how could I forget that this is a boss rush? The boss rush gameplay is arguably the most unique thing about the game. Each level you're sent straight to a big bad instead of annoying minions that just waste hours of gameplay, and because of that, the length of the game is actually very dependent on your skill. One final thing to mention- the graphics are really simple and yet look amazing. Overall, this ticks every box, and I definitely recommend it.

Solbane is, as advertised, a boss rush shmup featuring 14 stages each with their own unique boss, and 3 customizable ships to take on the campaign with. It's not really much of an RPG, since there's no grinding or real variables as to how strong you are at any given time, except that you unlock more upgrade points and customization options as you go through the campaign.
Unfortunately, it's weighed down by some questionable boss design - a lot of instakills feel cheap even though the game says it will usually warn you, the next-to-last boss Archangel works differently from all of the other bosses, and not to the game's benefit, and there weren't really any bosses that I felt I wanted to try going up against a second time after winning - and the lack of difficulty modes, so while I could play with the other two ships I didn't use to complete the campaign, there's not really much left for me after just a little over an hour of play, and there's no easy mode (or RPG-style grinding) for less skilled players, either.
I can't say too much about the customization since I only used one ship, the Architect, but once I unlocked and found a setup I liked, it worked on every boss after that. I think as long as you have a mixture of offensive options and defensive panic buttons in your typical loadout that you won't really need to shuffle it around very much.
Not recommended, though it's not, like, terrible or anything. It's just kind of meh.
