I was seeing this game on Steam for a long while before I decided to finally get it. I was mostly hesitant from the reviews, but loved the idea of it. The concept itself is awesome and unique and I just wish it was implemented better. I tried to like this game, but it truly fell short in my opinion. Yes, I understand that it's Early Access, but keep in mind that I've got nearly 1300 hours baked into 7 Days to Die, the king of Early Access games. Better yet, I'm probably at 3000 hours in Escape From Tarkov, the runner-up for the title. This felt like Desolate, but worse. However, it is substantially better than Subsistence. The melee combat is so static and boring and it doesn't feel like you're actually hitting the enemies. The base "management" is slim to none, with everything that you need already being available from the start. The only things to really do with it are plant seeds that take 5 minutes to grow, refill your generator, and upgrade your workstations. Issues with framerates was also a major problem for me. *(btw turn on FSR and turn off Frame Generation. you're welcome.)* Chests in the world taking 2 minutes of your available immunity time just for looking at them is a wack mechanic, although the puzzles to unlock them are a breath of fresh air. The storyline and writing isn't bad, in my opinion, and I love the idea of mixing different blueprints together to make the Serum that you want/need for certain situations. The world looks fantastic, and I like how the items look. Look, Serum has great potential, but in it's current state, and with the devs stating that they're currently "facing issues with development", I cannot recommend it. It's giving off the feeling of the first few stages of abandonware.

Would have been a great game. Serum could have been a great game. Unfortunately the devs aren't responding with actual updates here or on Discord. As it stands now, gameplay is decent but not great. Combat is clunky, crafting is repetitive, and certain materials are obscenely hard to find. Add to that the overall lack of support from the team, and it's not worth the money. I really wanted to like Serum. I invested time to send in bugs, provide feedback, and try to make it the best possible experience. Sadly, it seems to have been abandoned, as there have been no updates in nearly 5 months, and the devs don't reply unless it's copy paste.
