Look, I will play literally anything that says Tower Defense on it. I got a few hours of enjoyment out of it and it's really impressive that the dev made it for a class. Just use the unicorn tower, it's OP. Also, I could NOT figure out what made the difference with how many rainbow donuts I got for a level. Sometimes I would get 100, sometimes I got 10, and I could not tell why.
A lot of big steps for a student and a lot of unicorns
First of all I might be a little prejudiced because the developer of this game was part of the student course that I take, Game Development. This is the final work of said developer and all Game Dev Student work together to help each other and we are very well connected. So a lot of us took part in the tests. Nonetheless the game has been released and i bought it refusing the offer to get a free key in order to support the little game.
So Uniboom is neither the best nor the worst tower defense game. It rather a little few hours fun pack with all essential feature a tower defense game needs. You´ve got a story told over 10 Levels, a various range of enemy units and four units on your own to defend your city and the rainbow world. Nothing wrong with that also i am not the biggest fan of the theme. Outside of the story you can use donuts to improve your units or adding or stengthing global effects to make things easier. So far so good. While this works there are some flaws that should be improved or looked at. First things that felt wrong is the switch between your units. If you select one unit and want to select another within already selected unit it sometimes happen that you cant select see other one and you need to click outside of the area in order to select the new one. Overall this happens serveral time when I tried to panick sell a few units to avoid the inevitble defeat. Another thing to complain about is the location of the window close button and the sell button. Lets just say I manage to sell a few upgraded units in times where i needed to close the unit windows after upgrading. Last point of critism for me is the lack of information which level i am on right now. I dont know if this i supposed to happen, but all 10 level where unlocked and i went away for sometime and had to figure out which one i did and where to play next. There is no real inddication for that.
Beside all that the game is a lot of fun for a few hours. It is not to easy and its small terms provides enough to stand on it own. I like and can recommend it if one whant to support dev student who learn to make games. There a definitly worse games out there then this one.
