Fun little platformer. Definitely worth getting, at least on sale.

Cute with nice music, but that's about it. Very floaty movement, lazy level design, uninspired collectibles, generally pretty bad all around.

This is a reaally cool precision platformer! The difficulty is challenging without being too much frustrating (at least for me, I enjoy Celeste and Super Meat Boy). Nice music, visuals and overall presentation. The story is nothing to write home about, but it doesnt matter for a game like this. Really recommend it!

looks like Celeste and Shovel Knight had a kid in terms of genre and graphics, but that's not a bad thing. The character controls feel a little heavy (like the og mario bros.). 0% story, 100% jumping. Surprisingly well made for the price. edit, after almost finishing the game: - the game has some nice mechanics like gravity inversion but they are not used that much. By far the most used element are switches that toggle wall blocks. - some cherries are too easy to pick up because they are basically on the normal path that every player will cross. - some levels are quite fun trying to improve your time, others are too easy/automated (for example too many springs that push you automatically right to the end of the level. still a nice game.

Just got 100%! Really nice game! Some devilish hard levels in there. Love the soundtrack. Controls are spot on. I wish there was a replay mode, it'd be the icing on the cake. Maybe in Milli & Greg 2 :)

Quick Description: -Milli & Greg is a throwback precision platformer w/ an adorable aesthetic, retro 8 bit visuals, and offers modern challenging levels. This is a slam dunk recommendation for fans of challenging platformers and those that grew up playing Mario Bros. What's Good: -The highlight of Milli & Greg is the presentation and overall nostalgia. This game is basically what a precision platformer would have likely looked like had it come out on NES. It feels like a spinoff that Nintendo would have made back in the day. It has fun collectibles, adorable npcs, a lighthearted cute story, and a soundtrack that will bring you back to your childhood days of playing NES. There are a lot of cute personal touches scattered everywhere, all w/ detailed pixel art. -This is a game that is more than just nostalgia. There are four challenging worlds, each one w/ 25 levels for a total of 100 levels. There are two different sets of collectibles to find throughout these levlels which unlock two more sets of worlds and an additional 50 levels. These two unlockable worlds are pretty challenging. I haven't completed them yet, I knocked out a handful of each before starting this review. I found the first 3 worlds fairly straight forward, and world 4 started to ramp up the difficulty. -You absolutely can't beat the $5 asking price. This game reminds me of Rite a lot although I think Milli & Greg has slightly more character to it. Cloak and Dasher is another extremely fun $5 precision platformer, so there is some real competition even at this lower price bracket. All are fantastic options for those looking for smaller sized precision platformers that still offer a solid challenge. I snagged this for $3, making it an even bigger steal. -You gotta have a good soundtrack in a throwback platformer, and this game doesn't disappoint. You'll immediately be brought back to simpler times as a kid playing Mario for hours on end. Every world offers a new twist on this glorious retro soundtrack. Could Use Some Changes: -Like most 8 bit throwbacks, it can feel a bit unforgiving at times. Every jump must be pixel perfect. Every level is doable for sure, but it will take some practice getting used to the basic mechanics. Early on, I always thought that I could avoid a hazard by quickly jumping, but realized that I didn't have quite the freedom that most of the big guns in this genre offer. This isn't a bad thing, but it is going to an adjustment for most players. -It kind of feels like you are on an ice skating rink at times. It actually reminds me of old school Mario quite a bit. It's like your character has a bit more weight and momentum than you would expect after running for a bit. I'm not sure it's the ideal choice for a precision platformer, although most players will adjust to it w/ some practice. -It doesn't really bring anything new to the precision platformer genre. Although this game is glowing w/ charm and nostalgia, it plays it pretty safe. Thoughts: -Milli & Greg is a fairly simple game, but it's works quite well. This is a fun game w/ tons of charm. I'm really happy w/ the end game content and that's what truly won me over. The later levels are both the most challenging and enjoyable content in the game, and it's a great way to end any game. This is an easy recommendation for fans of challenging retro platformers. Consensus: -Middle of the Road Game (Tier 4 and makes up 25% of my reviews). There are so many incredible games in this genre, so it's tough to stand out of the crowd. Milli & Greg isn't the most innovative game out there, but it makes up for it w/ well designed, challenging, and adorable levels that will fill your ears w/ tunes from your favorite 8 bit games. Don't let this one slide under the radar. Pick it up on a sale and have a great time.

Awesome precision platformer! The soundtrack is marvelous, it gives the game an extremely energetic mood. The game is hard but not too much! The stages are short so it's easy to pick it up quickly and finish one or two stages.

They definitely took a few things from Celeste (which is great imo, developers would remiss to learn nothing from the best platformer of our generation); however, they didn't actually implement any of the things that made Celeste so great. Celeste feels great because the physics are made extremely forgiving, allowing one that little extra leeway in extremely hard screens. This significantly reduces player frustration and keeps them happy, while still allowing for an extremely difficult game. Milli & Greg takes a lot aesthetically from Celeste, but very little mechanically. This game doesn't appear to implement coyote frames, the unexpectedly precise and useful tech, or many of the other mechanics that gave the player leeway. The ground feels like ice everywhere (can't stop quickly) and many little aspects of the game serve to make your life harder without actually increasing the enjoyment aspect of the difficulty. Another example: Celeste freezes the entirety of the game physics for the first 4 frames after dash is pressed, this game only seems to freeze the player, subtly making the game harder while not increasing the thrill one gets from completing difficult screens. Long story short, this game doesn't borrow from Celeste any of the things that made it great. It wasn't the main character's hair color, the fruit collecting, the dashes, or the cityscape that made Celeste amazing. It was the leeway mechanics in the background making Madeline a joy to control. That being said, it's certainly worth $5 for fans of the precision platforming genre.

+Great visuals, UI, and decent soundtrack. -Extremely clunky old school NES super mario style movement -Level design starts off extremely simplistic and open, but very quickly becomes extremely cramped, requiring very precise movements that the player physics don't really feel designed for. -The primary level mechanic used is "switches", which have never been my favorite to begin with, but the way they are implemented in this game is especially annoying. Overall a well made platformer, I just couldn't find very much enjoyment in controlling my character and navigating through the levels. Would recommend several dozen other platformers over this.
