I try and play LGBT games and support the devs in the community. I really hate that I can't recommend this visual novel. I lost interest when I went through one of the paths, and at several points it displays an error so, you're missing parts of the story. Lucky you can ignore it and move on. Some times there is no image what so ever or it's just a checked background, with the wording. For £10+ I'd expect better quality. Surely this would have been flagged during the testing phase. You can get the free DLC (bonus) which I thought may fix the issue, but no. If I hadn't had this for so long (just not got around to playing it) I'd have requested a refund. The point of a visual novel is the visual aspect. I'd given up and lost interest in the end, and turned on the skip all, clicked ignore on the errors, and got the remaining achievements. The art work is good, when it displays, the idea of the story I like, and the start was good. The endings I really cannot comment on as I didn't get that far without auto skip. If you really want to give this ago, please wait until it's on sale, don't pay full price for it.

I really love the idea of this. And had fun playing until I got past the common route. And then I kept hitting bugs. Bugs that took me away from the route I was on into another route. A bug that took out the entire background. I reinstalled the game. Same problem. I am super bummed because the game looked like it was gonna be cute and then just hit me with all of that

*Updated 2/24/2023* This is more of a neutral review rather than a strong recommendation. TLDR: Monstrous Lovers is a supernatural geared visual novel with four love interests. The game comprises of a variety of choices and a clear benchmark where the player will know which route they have entered. Each character has a good and bad ending, which you get is pretty clear despite not being explicitly stated as such. The characters are enjoyable to interact with as each have their own distinct traits and personality. Explicit content has been added through a free dlc patch and includes a cg to go with the scenario. In-Depth: Story: Each of the characters have their own story that truly fleshes itself out after the benchmark point. My personal favorite was Vincent and seemed to be a suggested "true" end route. Despite this the other characters were not neglected and are about the same in length. Every route was enjoyable and provided enough to keep me invested in the game rather than just skipping even in routes I wasn't as enthusiastic about. Art: The art in the game is clean, and enjoyable to look at. It's stylized to an extent but not to the point that it detracts from the story. Each character has an introductory CG and about 6 route CG's to unlock, 2 of which usually comprise of the good and bad ends. Based on my playtime of 13 hours, the average player would unlock one CG per half hour of gameplay. Voice-acting: The game has some spanish voice over in the beginning. The majority of the game however is silent as the voice ends by the time you enter a character route. The voiced lines that are there sound good, and don't detract from the story but based on how the voiced lines are spaced out it does feel a little voice heavy in the beginning compared to the silence in the character's routes. Music: The music is comprised of some royalty-free pieces that I was able to pick out. They don't necessarily detract from the scenes themselves but they also aren't that memorable either and is not the selling point for this game. (Especially when compared to the art and story line) Misc: [strike]I did encounter a gallery bug where a CG wasn't registering which the dev is aware of and it has patched. The dev is also quick to answer inquiries which is greatly appreciated. There are also no achievements for this game.[/strike] Gallery bug has been fixed and achievements have been added for completing character endings and the common route. The new adult patch provided an expansion on the 2-3 sentence explicit scenes that were present in the game prior. My favorite overall was Vincent's due to how naturally it flowed in comparison to the other characters. I wasn't as into the others due to them either feeling awkward as a scene or the lead-up didn't personally get me into the scene. I would have likely enjoyed the other characters scenes more had the characters appeared to have more attraction for one another rather than what appeared to just be a surge of lust in the moment. The game is overall a fun experience and does a good job engaging the player during each playthrough. If you like supernatural creatures, fluffy with a hint of spice romance, and/or an interesting read then give this game a shot.
