I wish I could request a refund, but I played past that point, hoping something would get better. It's too choppy for me (graphically), and I'm tired of trying to figure out why.

This is the first time i really felt like ever bringing this up in my entire life, I really wanted to love and enjoy this game. I found this game after looking around and researching for Age of Sail roleplaying games. It looked amazing, it had a great selection of content on the surface, lots of detail, and what seemed like a great team behind the project. I purchased the game based on the steam store page, and its great reviews, not really looking up any outside reviews or videos regarding the gameplay or singleplayer story. I personally dont have an issue with the story, mainly because i was not even able to get myself immersed into it fully yet, until something came up which struck me so horribly that it made me want to write this review in the first place... Once the main character is introduced, and the player completes the sailing tutorial. You will watch another cutscene which reveals to the player that they are waiting for another individual, a smuggler to meet with them and exchange cargo. This was seemingly interesting at first, and i was genuinely curious, and paying attention to what was currently unfolding before me. Which, to my dismay, was a, (in my opinion) flawed female character. Who, sadly, was seemingly only written as a plot device, and a pair of tits to stare at... After the scene where they establish that she uses her body to seduce men, in an attempt lure them into ambushes or robberies (Im not really sure i stopped paying attention). I was greeted with the full body render of the woman, and was mortified by what i had just witnessed, and shut the game off... I will say, that im not in any shoes to say what someone can or cannot do, or how they conduct themselves, dress themselves, etc etc. Although, my issue with this game is that i felt their introduction of this character, its design, and their depiction on screen was incredibly flawed, and was, in my honest opinion, somewhat dull? Its clear that this woman was written and designed from a male perspective, and it took what could have been an amazing character, or at least an interesting tutorial buddy, (Im not sure how long she is actually on screen for after this.) and boils them down to a few "Feminine Rogue" cliches. She sports an abysmal outfit choice, with what seems to me like a needlessly large "Boob window" and no personality or defining characteristics or traits to speak of, which is why i brought up this character potentially being just a tutorial buddy. If you are going to create a bland character, who happens to be a woman. please give them more identity and thought! If i could give suggestions, i would like to ask that this character is taken back to the drawing board, or at least, their current introduction during the tutorial be redefined. Why cant she just be a notorious local smuggler with a perchance for danger? Why cant she at least have a nicer outfit? Maybe something that distinguishes her as an authority figure, from looking like an NPC, with just a low cut grey shirt, and trousers... I understand that historical accuracy is paramount for a title like this one, so i can see why her design is so plain. Although, just for the tutorial, you couldn't have given this, what seems like the captain of her own ship, at least an overcoat? or maybe even some article of clothing that might insinuate that she has some type of amassed wealth or rank/authority from years of smuggling? not even a nice hat? Nope. nothing. She is dressed just as well as the man who designed and wrote her, and it shows. Bland, boring, basic, and ultimately, reduced to nothing more than what felt like an object for someones s^xual fixations while they were drafting them. As i stated previously, this was so horrifyingly eye opening to me that it prompted me to almost immediately realize what was happening, close the game, and write this review. Not because im triggered, or i want to cause drama. It's simply because i want my feedback and experience to be heard by the developers! If i felt this way, someone else must feel this way too, or may think similarly to myself. Having something like this, so early in the game could put off alot of people, just like i was! I really wanted to enjoy this game, and was waiting almost a day or two after installing just to play it due to my own schedule. Talk about a let down, this game looked really good on the surface, and i was actually enjoying it so far... I might keep playing after this, just to see what happens, but to be honest, i might just refund this game if the same pattern keeps occurring. UPDATE: Just played about 30-45 more minutes of the game, honestly disappointed. Catherine was not a tutorial buddy, surprisingly, but is actually integral to the flow of the tutorial, or early chapters, For reasons i can only guess... At this point I turned the game off just past the "handshake" scene. Its now clear to me that since the beginning this character was suppose to be some sort of "written in" love interest. Totally could have fooled me guys! :D Retouching on what i went through earlier, i realized that most of my shock came from a scene where the main characters narration was speaking about Catherine, and said, quote: "It's worth noting that she had other strengths that certainly made up for a single flaw." Personally, this was where my what the F meter hit the ceiling, not because i just left out the context for what really made me so mad, but because this line was read over an image of Catherine's body that was angled downward and practically zooming into into her chest! Are you even trying to hide this!?! its just flat out incredible, how objectified this woman is. Oh, and remember how i said that Catherine would seduce men in order to rob them? well i got that bit wrong, she does it to lure information out of men. Here's another great quote from our main character! "Thanks to Catherine and her ability to get along with many men, especially over a mug of something stronger," .... Personally, I've made my decision to refund this game. In all of my years of gaming, i've never seen such a potentially good character, fail so horribly. (Not even in AAA titles, everyone has their own opinion there.) Not to mention only having played this game for an hour, and the only situations where this character was able to progress the story was when the writer's used "Her" Oh no, not Captain Pieck, the Fearsome, independent, smuggler. They "used" "Her" (Hint Hint) To progress the story... Its just disgusting see this happening, not only is it lazy storytelling, but its disrespectful to countless female pirates in history, who fought to disprove such a stereotype from being portrayed on them. I'm just going to end this review here with some review points, with my above rant and story issues covered fully. i can give you my final thoughts of what i took from the first hour of this game's Story mode. 1). This game's cutscene's reek of 40-50yr old Digital Arts major. This semi realistic comic book style art just screams "My Graphics Design Career peeked in 2004 when i found after effects as a wedding photographer.", and makes the game feel dated. I understand why this choice was made, it seems to fit the storybook narrative. I dont have any issues with that, but when the art style is just so cringe, i cant enjoy it. What i dont understand is, with the dialoge system, could you not have created some type of interactable cutscene system with animated scenes? 2.) The running in this game is atrocious! did anyone notice how fast the player moves in normal time settings? It makes sword combat feel janky, especially in tight ship decks where one side step moves you practically to the other side of the vessel, and forces the A.I to reposition, potentially blocking you into the maps geometry.

Legacy of the Corsairs is a simulator of pirate life. A pleasant relaxing single player game, a game for fans of the pirate genre. Nice graphics and gameplay. The game has been in Early Access for a year now, and bugs are still being discovered. If the game is finalized, I will leave a positive review unchanged.

Some thing to try if you are looking for a pirate game, even in early access it looks decent and handles okay. Definitely has a'lot of potential, cant wait to see what it will become.

Naval combat a mess: ships zip around like torpedo boats, you almost never land hits while the enemy never seems to miss. avatar combat is quite honestly frustrating: enemies block from behind, while i get one tapped with a sword when at full health, pistols often do less damage than a light hit with a sword. It looked fun, but is really rather tedious at current state.

In general this game have a very high potential. Nice atmosphere, good, relaxing music, interesting story. I really anjoyed both travels on sea and on land. Obviously it is far from being ready. It is early access game and it require a lot of improvements, reworks and polishing. Game need more attention on the sea aspects, improvement of sea batlle and ship capturing, improvement of optimization and NPCs. However those few hours that I spent in the game, even taking into account a few crashes and lags, I had fun and it is the most important. Now want to see how devs will complete it and hope this game will allow tham to continue with their plans!
