Warning: Asset Flip!
Cube Island is a Digital Homicide style Unity Asset flip, what Valve calls a "fake game". The "developer", Sweet Games, took the Voxel Play 2 Unity Store tutorial/demo/game asset pack from the real developers, Kronnect, changed the name, dumped someone else's low poly pirate pack onto it for the characters and mobs, and dumped the result onto Steam. They're attempting to scam people into buying this, so they can get your money for someone else's work.
Boom Games/Boom Team has shown a repeat pattern of unethically dumping other people's work onto Steam as a cheap, nasty cash grab. Here's some examples so you can see for yourself:

The products that result from asset flips aren't "real" games. They lack depth and content, because they're just simplistic copies of demos or tutorials. In this case, "Voxel Play 2" is just a Unity asset pack for making Minecraft ripoff games, and doesn't have any merit as a proper, fully fledged PC game, so a copy+paste of it can't be recommended.
Asset flips don't involve any professional game development. Sure, sometimes they may change a few cosmetic things, swap out different assets etc, but at heart it's functionally identical to the asset they're ripping off.
Asset flips like this are harmful to the gaming industry and to Steam because they reduce the visibility that sincerely made indie games should have, and make it harder for gamers to find real games from genuine developers.
Don't reward this morally bankrupt, unethical behaviour from Sweet Games.
Note: Valve have marked this game as "Profile Features Limited" at the time of this review. This is usually caused by poor sales figures for the game (to date). Until this status changes, this game will not count towards your Game Collector counts, achievements or any other Steam meta-accomplishments, nor can it be displayed in some profile showcases. If these factors are important to you, it may be worth holding off before buying this game.

I was expecting this to be a low effort asset flip that would offer at least some bare minimum amount of entertainment through rudimentary building, crafting, and exploration. Somehow Sweet Games managed to outdo XOGames Austin Guffey's SURVIVE THE ISLAND in abysmal quality.
You can't see at night, the torch doesn't work, there don't seem to be any enemies, no crafting menu, no labels on 4 random sliders that comprise the entirety of the options menu, the menu lags, there aren't any objectives, and nothing really works.
This might just be the absolute worst Minecraft clone to ever be released.

I love the options menu simple design. I don't know why i can fly and what should i do in this game. Be aware and do not open the chests! (it crashed my game). the torch doesn't work, night commes quick, and there is soooooo dark that you can't see shit. i like that.

i pray to god this isnt a release, but a beta. if its a beta its salvageable. but currently it seems to be entirely creative with no ability to access inventory and gets very dark very fast. the movement is somehow jerky and laggy at the same time... and turning the camera or moving causes the entire screen to blur. dont bother trying to fix it in the options menu either. nothing is labeled, its just 4 sliders of undefined nonsense. i cant even use the top button in the play menu. if im doing something wrong please let me know but... currently its just bad.

Eleven minutes in, and it makes no damn sense.
It is a mine-craft clone of sorts, with a pirate theme, but there seems to be no way to save a game, which really reduces it's value. You also seem to start out with an infinite number of many resources, although torches don't seem to work at all. I clicked a lot if keys, but of there is a way to craft, I have no clue what it would be. I checked the surprising short help list, and even what there was didn't seem to work.
For example L is supposed to toggle my light, but it does nothing.
It is also very dark, even during the day! What the heck?
I paid less than a buck, and it was still way too much. Unless more work is put in to this, I don't see ever changing my review.
