I wanted to like this game, but it has so few features, so little variety in the quests and character customization, and so many issues (though none ever caused crashes) that I stopped playing after an hour and requested a refund. I'd recommend something like Battle Brothers over this game. I may consider getting this game again in the future if the developer improves it from its initial Early Access state.

At first playing, I was ready to do a return, as I felt it may be shallow and too mobile craplike. It got better, but it took a little understanding of what the game is trying to do, and I am pleasantly surprised to turn my feeling around about it. A first look sees not the greatest graphics and the price seemed high for what it was, although after a time playing and dying, I knew it was something different and open to my anyway of playing. Choose what quests to take and how to get them, what the world is like and who comes and goes in it makes a big world full of adventures. We all know how early access can go, so I hope nothing but the best comes to this project.

The premise & promise of the game are great and something I had been looking for forever. However, the game is not and I'm happy I played less than 2 hours so that I might get a refund. The second to last straw was that trying to load my game and give it another shot (from yesterday) every save game straight up crashed the game. I couldn't load it or get back into it. Wanna lose you run? Yeah, no. But the last straw was the devs saying "The game mechanics will not undergo major changes.” (from their EA blurb). You wat. This game needs so much balancing, polish, help etc. My crew, characters were only at level 3 or 4 and so of my characters had a 99.5% hit rate and an 98.5% crit rate. I wish that was a typo. I didn't hardcore min-max them or anything. Normal play. What kind of balancing is this where you easily get to a place where you crit _all the time_ Either I was super unlucky or the enemies also get there, so in a 2 skull dungeon an enemy just 1-shot my quite well equipped tank without me getting to do anything. It's weird. It's rough. I have nothing against punishing/hard games but that's just BOOM you're dead. Imo, the arenas/rooms - even out in the open - are just too small and so maneuvarability doesn't matter. There are other issues of course with the quests, presentations, depth of character customization etc. but I'm happy to forgive a lot to get a party based turn based roguelite on a procedurally generated map. But not when I literally can't play it and the balancing is totally out the window.

Beautiful atmospheric rpg with a tabletop style of play where you can choose different classes to play such as a knight, paladin, hunter and others which have yet to be released in the early access version. They come with different skills and it pays to hire companions in cities who will make a major difference between exploring a dungeon full of nightmarish horrors and lowlife hooligans or having to turn around due to not having a character who can pick locks to open doors/treasure chests. On one mission i survived much better with my companions compared to previous missions where i either went at it alone or with companions which do not fare too well in combat such as peasants. If you protect them well even a peasant can level up to be a mighty hero and ally in your group especially when gearing them up with all the cool gear one finds in dungeons. Not all dungeons are full of loot. Sometimes you will find nothing depending on how far your able to go into a castle ruin, graveyard, dragon's lair etc. Other times you will find very useful equipment and gold. Each party member has gear and weapons they can use or find as well depending on class and skills cannot use which can be sold in cities for gold to buy stuff you can use as well as travel resources such as food for when you camp out in the wild or spend the gold at an inn. Traps abound in dungeons as well where if you take enough damage from not being able to detect them they can injure and eventually kill you. For certain situations like opening chests a dice will be rolled and depending on your skill level you may succeed or fail. You level up over time with the choice to put points on your stats such as strength, health, dexterity, intelligence etc. Portrait avatars of your character and companions are very well done capturing the many faces of adventurers from the honorable to the dastardly and naughty. Graphics are a mix of gothic architecture and gorgeous green landscapes where you travel over a map discovering crypts where all forms of malevolent undead dwell, castle ruins with monstrous giants and man eating raging wolves, bandit hideouts where you may be contracted to take them out and when encountering them cutting them a break by giving them a choice to leave which is probably dependent on ones persuasion related skills. Music and audio are retro gaming magic as am hearing sounds reminding me of classics such as MIGHT AND MAGIC and ULTIMA with the same soothing relaxing effect when traveling across the vast map full of mystery and wonder. As for stability everything is running perfectly with no issues. Have yet to crash or see any bugs occur on my i7 8700, 16gb ram, Geforce RTX 2060 6gb vram, Windows 10 with the latest updates. THE LOST KING OF AVALLON, BUY IT! PLAY IT! Live and enjoy a fantasy world thickly detailed with tabletop gaming goodness.
