For those that come after.
The first air raid of World War 2 to reach my home town of Cologne happened on the 12th of May 1940. Thousands upon. thousands of tonnes of bombs were dropped on the city. When the smoke finally cleared on the 6th of March ´45 and the city was captured by the allied forces the city was little more than rubble. The only landmark of note remaing was the grand cathedral standing at its heart, which the air force had been ordered not to attack but collateral damage was inevitable.
There are many many games that take place during World War 2. Players have stormed the beaches of Normandy countless times but what happens when the guns fall silent and life has to continue?
WW2 Rebuilder tells the story of those that try and pick up the pieces and rebuild what has been destroyed and replace what has been lost. Some do it out of a sense of obligation, some out of guilt and some because what else is there to do? The game tells the story of these people while you break down walls and fill in bomb craters.
For this you have a wide variety of tools that are all easy and satisfying to use. And after all has been cleaned up you get the chance to put your own flair in to make the place not just clean but somewhere people can return to.
The presentation itself is kind of reminiscent of a history or museum exhibit, trying to emulate the look of the time a bit but sadly the music tends to be on the side of generic muzac. I personally cued up the greatest hits from the 40s and it felt way more authentic. It did run out of content sooner than I expected though, even with the Remagen DLC. I could have gone for a couple more rubble piles and houses in need of fixing.
The game can feel a small bit jank here and there when the physics go wonky for a moment and interactions between two points, for example to hitch a wreck to a truck can feel frustratingly finnicky. I also had a bug at some point where the game would suddenly vibrate like crazy and only a restart could fix that. All in all this is one of the better work simulator games though.
A very chill game for history afficionados without time pressure and very well worth a buy when it goes on sale.

A simple yet good cleanup and build game. Simple problem solving with nice bits of lost history added. Worth the price.

its a fun time filler that shows ww2 from another point of view, the aftermath. anyone interested in history and building simulators will find this game entertaining enough to warrant the price

Great relaxing and mindful game. I strongly recommend to anybody who likes WW2 or just who wants take a few relaxing evenings. It's a pitty that there is no reconstruction in USSR, maybe future DLC?

Too many bugs, not enough decoration, many typos, and they portray all civilians as medieval even though it's the 1940s. Also, the building options aren't great, the game lacks content, and sandbox mode is disappointing. Really sad since this is such a great idea for a game, but the execution is unpolished, lackluster, and can be un-fun at times.

(Bought this on steam summer sale 2025 for 6,29 euros, played 12 hours at time of review(including the free dlc Remagen, though I didn't bother with decoration effort on any map, but that's my own choice so, it's not affecting my review score.)
The gameplay in this game is quite satisfying.
You break down stuff, replace and fix, you know the story with restoration games.
Between maps, you get these intros with top-notch introduction and narration. 10/10 on that, imo.
I didn't bother with the decoration stuff to get 5 stars on each level, so i only got at max 4.5, since I'm kinda lazy lol.
But this game just doesn't seem complete.
Almost all, if not all NPC's that are not of military, but civilian seem to wear actual medieval clothing.
You know, these primitive leathers, leather pouches, very basic, baggy-like shirts. No buttons, just strings/ropes and leather belts. Not ww2 clothing, not even ww1.
NPC's also seems very basic and simple, just wander back and forth between A,B and sometimes C.
I had several of them walk into and push against a tank obliviously, that I was disassembling and interfering with me.
Well, at least they run off when you drive a vehicle near them.
On one map, a factory map level, I noticed that several doors were just lazily plastered with brick textures.
One wall even had a double-door on one side(bricks texture), and the other side had a window.
The tutorial is quite annoying, to be honest. You get popups that stops your gameplay here and there, but there is also this level from the demo, where tons of the stuff you already have gotten repeats your past tutorials.
As if the devs didn't bother removing the tutorial hints from that level when moving it into the main game.
While the tutorial tries its hardest to inform you about the main mechanics how to play, there are some things that seem to be overlooked.
There was one level where I completely failed to find a key, and I had to look up a guide, and it turns out that the key was so well hidden, not even my CTRL-scan helped.
I wish there were more cleaning options. I see tons and tons of walls that are broken and/or dirty that I could fix, but the game won't let me. And floors, too.
I want the game to let me clean, and fix up floors, even when my quests/tasks are not even asking me to.
Like, I want to factory-restore maps, you know?
I also wish there was some kind of easy-mode when it comes to decoration, where there are pre-assigned positions for items at places around the map. I feel that decoration, when done properly, takes way more time than the normal main and side tasks.
So... in a sense, this game is very well made, but also lazily made at some points.
And while it is in that state, I can't recommend it at full price. If it's under 10 dollars or euro, maybe.
