Disclaimer: My scores/reviews are almost always based on having bought the game at close to the "lowest historical price" on steam at time of purchase.
Quick score: 4/5
Notes: It has controller support, but it only supports D-pad, not analog stick, which is annoying.
The game is fairly challenging. The main mechanics of the game are the relatively strict death timer on every level which forces you to speedrun to some extent. And then the coin blast which turns the game into a puzzle platformer. Basically the coins scattered around the stages can be used to kill enemies, but they also activate switches and open doors. The coins are limited and if you use them incorrectly you will effectively lose the stage by softlocking yourself.
Overall decent game, for 99c it's worth it.
I got 100% in about 90 minutes. About 20 of those minutes were on the last 2 levels.

Super Mario Bros. 35 is the battle royale game I didn't know I needed in my life. For whatever the reason, I never got around to playing Tetris 99, but when Super Mario Bros. 35 was released, I was on the eShop downloading it within minutes. My entire gaming life has been leading up to this experience, and Super Mario Bros. 35 forced me to rethink my approach to a game I've played countless times, because there are other people in it now. That experience alone endeared Super Mario Bros. 35 to me, but stoking the fire of my competitiveness is what kept me hooked. That being said, I definitely saw diminishing returns as I approached hour eight of my playtime over the past weekend.
The premise is simple: you play Super Mario Bros. You know, the game pretty much everyone on the entire planet has played? The one they packed in with the Nintendo Entertainment System? That one. But now you’re playing against 34 other players of varying levels of skill, trying to knock them out, winnowing down the field until only you, the rightful winner, claim victory.

A decent looking game with flat controls and a frustrating timer system. I found myself rationing coins and racing the clock, which in theory could be a cool premise for a platforming game. Unfortunately, this game lacks the chops to pull it off. A few more months of polish would add a lot. Little things like the level ending the moment the character touches the exit door and just freezing there detract from the experience.

Captain Coffer reminds me of the good ole days on the NES. The interesting choice of characters/visuals create a unique and challenging experience. Highly recommended for the hardcore platformer enthusiast.

Very short lived platformer game remencient of the NES era, its dirt cheap so there's nothing to complain about in length, you'll get more than a buck of time out of it. The game is pretty casual and most levels are pretty easy to beat and even let you take branching paths to try to clear it, the finale was kind of frustrating because they don't give you many spare seconds to figure out how you're supposed to finish but other than that the game is pretty relaxed.
No super loss to play this. Small note: the plot is an excuse to have a game and makes zero sense.

It's one of those cutesy challenging platformers that will probably make you scream. A great throwback game and freshman entry from this one-man dev team.
