Playtime: 43 minutes
I was hoping this one would turn into something good, but I played two levels and it just has too many flaws in it. There is a lot going on, and it has some nice features, like path building, and target selection, but it simply has too much that is irritating. For example most of your foes are some sort of car, but sometimes it's tanks, that can actually destroy your towers and bust open your path. In the process, it also sets some towers in fire, and they put out smoke that can obscure much of the map. There is also no real explanation of what blocks a towers attack, sometimes you get squares on top of buildings to build on, some towers will shoot from up there, others will not. Conversely you can build on the ground floor, and your towers can't shoot over the little fence? The game has flying foes which come over the top, but there is no clue which direction they will come from, and they seem to destroy everything they fly over. The lack of tactical options is felt, as is the lack of strategic upgrades of any kind. You simply get access to more towers for having played a certain number of levels, and once unlocked they stay unlocked, though for some reason despite the different attack values of the gun, they all seen to cost the same amount, ten scrap and one energy. All in all it feels like a real effort was made, but the end result was awkward and under explained. Some fluff would have been nice as well. Am I an invader? Am I the humans defending myself from autonomous cars? What is going on? In all honesty, if you are curious, it might be worth getting just for the experience, but it simply isn't very fun. One thumb down.
