Rating: 10/10 – A Haunting, Artistic Journey Through Memory and Shininess
GILLES is great and creative.
Very different, not your typical game — it's a poetic, psychological descent into the mind of a successful theater director obsessed with his Magnum Opus and his memories of the Past and the Future. Definitely a game made for fans.
You play as Gilles, a brilliant and acclaimed artist who retreats to California to finalize a mysterious, long-gestating theatrical vision. There’s no combat — instead, you’re invited to explore his isolated home and the Grand Solomon Theater , uncovering memory, obsession, and family secrets.
The sound design is masterful — the crackle of old recordings, the distant rumble of thunder, the eerie silence of forgotten rooms. Every corner of the house is a relic of memory, a brushstroke in a portrait of genius and grief.
Narrative is where GILLES truly shines. The story unfolds non linearly, through journals, photos, tapes, and relics of a life steeped in art and mystery. It's about legacy, identity, creative madness — and the strange figure at the center of it all: The Klown.
Not for Everyone:
If you need action, checkpoints, or hand holding, this isn’t for you. GILLES is for atmospheric storytelling players, slow exploration, and artistic experiences.
Final Verdict:
GILLES is an unforgettable, genre-defying meditation on art, memory, and the ghosts we live with. A must-play for fans of narrative-driven games and psychological drama.
Pros:
Deep, nonlinear storytelling
Breathtaking atmosphere and sound design
Bold, artistic direction
A uniquely immersive narrative
Made for Fans
Cons:
– Very little gameplay in the traditional sense
– Slow burn and Abstract pacing may not be for everyone
