Combat Mission Cold War Reviews
CM Cold War is set in the tipping-point years of a conflict that gripped the world for 45 years. Between 1979-1982, both the NATO and Soviet Warsaw Pact militaries began the shift away from industrialized warfare of the early 20th century and towards the modern digital battlefield of today.

I loved the original Combat Mission games, especially Beyond Overlord and Barbarossa to Berlin -- heck I even enjoyed Afrika Korps. They made steady upgrades on the way towards Shock Force, which I'm happy to have in a DVD case somewhere, but my goodness this engine doesn't feel like it's moved on since then. And looking now... yeah... Shock Force came out July 27, 2007 -- that's about how this game looks and feels.
Let's hope that the Slitherine acquisition will push this legendary series into a more modern era. But until then, it's nigh on impossible for me to use this interface. It's not helped by my poor eyesight, as many titles have been refunded for this reason, however the interface is tiny, has no UI scaling, no colour-blind modes, ability to change faction colours, and their mouse pointer is extremely hard to find. Also, I cannot use Windows Magnifying Glass inside the game which is a utility I often need.
Wargamers are known for being crusty bastards, right? Well those curmudgeons aren’t getting any younger, and I bet they’ve added all kinds of gizmos to their eye glasses lately. So you might want to cater to them in future titles.
Trust me, I’d rather write frustrated grognard reviews about armour penetration values, morale systems, and command and control problems rather than my inability to see what is happening in the game to properly assess those narrow details.
