While this game may be buggy in a few places, Anachronism is a very heartfelt little game with lovely pace and humour. As a lot of other people have mentioned, the sounds are incredibly nostalgic, or even just enjoyable as nice background noise if you're like me and were a little too young (or nonexistent) to actually use one of these computers as a young adult. The smaller details are, imo, what make this game what it is - which is a fantastic little short full of keyboard clacking and more-than-halfway-believable teenage/young adults talk (note: it's not nsfw, I just mean when you're younger and still looking sideways at a big strange future ahead of you). I got the good ending and can't speak for any of the others, but if you have a little patience with the small handful of bugs and occasional spelling mistakes, this game is more than worth the price. Come on, it's under a pound!!

I really enjoy this game! The 90's inspired graphics really did it for me. I can choose the choices I truly want to choose. I really like the characters, so far, my favorites are
rRatchet, JinX, and Mia!
Overall, I would definitely pick this game up!

i downloaded this game for simple price of a dollar. After finishing a blind playthrough and receiving the "lonely/sad ending" at the end, I wanted to post a review to give people who haven't played the game an honest look into what they're getting into when investing their money, even if it's just a dollar. (And There's a fairly big note for the Devs toward the end) This game is very similar to a game series called: "Emily is Here" wherein you're logging onto an old computer to chat with random people about nothing. the only difference is one game imitates AOL voice messaging software, while the other imitates a message service built from scratch on a floppy disk, called a BBC. Both have incredible potential to be interesting and/or exciting, but both games fail to be either, unless melodrama and insecure characters talking about mundane bullshit is your idea of entertainment. It is a well-built game(There were light glitches, but they were not a large hindrance on the game's mechanics) with great potential, squandered by Teenage Melodrama. Very Disappointing. The player choice aspect of the game was silly at best. The closest to a divergent answer with various endings was being asked if I preferred to "eat cereal with or without milk" or if I didn't want to answer. This game is more like a visual novel with certain binary choices, as opposed to a game that can have many endings depending on how you play. Personality Tests on Quotev are more interesting than this. There needs to be more branching paths for the story, and there needs to be an actual story, not just a flat conversation about random nonsense that anyone could make up. I'd play for the other endings, as I"m sure there are more, but listening to a bunch of characters written to be like adolescents just gathering on some discord server and engaging with small talk gets tedious very quickly. Who wants to listen to other people talk, if they have nothing of note to say? The characters in this game all act like a bunch of insecure morons who just talk about boring day to day stuff, and then get upset if we don't answer them a certain way. This game reminded me of how insufferable and annoying teenagers are, and for this, and other reasons, I am only playing this game once. Objectively speaking, The Graphics are Good, as well as the basic mechanics of the game, it runs fluidly for the most part, and the dad jokes were hilarious, but the story was lame, and the gameplay could be more expanded upon for this or future games, as this game ultimately is a cheap clone of Emily is Here(Since it's a dollar and all). without the customizing options and quirky humor and love triangle that made "Emily is Here" at least engaging. If you read this game developers, I have a suggestion for the stories for your future games: This game was boring and lame, and if you want to fix that, give people a good reason for wanting to engage with your interesting idea. What if there was a glitch that was alive that possessed the email service, and messed up the email system to place you in a platformer game haphazardly put together by this "glitch" of interest with glitchy texts and stuff to unveil some deep secret, or what if this happened if you clicked on the admin option? i can see this game is going for a realistic tone with how much love was poured into the process of old computers being booted up(Which was a nice touch, definitely keep that), but there should be something going on. What if the creator of the service was working for government and they were part of some psyop test that was to test out the future for social media companies like Facebook to use now? Or What if all the characters were aliens attempting to understand teenage/adolescent behavior? Something needs to happen, the game was flat because nothing happened. You logged on, you talked, and then you logged off. This should not be marketed as strange and mysterious, with "internet Strangers" when nothing happens, there's not even a lot of buildup! A Computer virus is as mediocre of a plot device as they come, especially since it happened at the end, and it barely impacted the story. One of those story lines I mentioned could've been a cool underlying "secret," over the regular boring chat stuff, something like how "pony Island" was, or "Don't Chat with Strangers" which while were of a different genre, still carried a similar retro 90s style of gaming that was promoted in this game. It could also have More than 10 endings, like in "The Stanley Parable" too. Lots of potential, met with a plateau, a rise to a flat. But no, the dumb secret just leads you to this stupid ending where you're supposed to be "sad" that you failed a french class exam, and that your internet friends don't like you anymore, and that you spent time alone. This is a sad ending? It's more of a neutral ending if anything, because how can I connect with characters who are nothing but passive aggressive Lame-Os? I'm certainly not sad at the end, I'm not even engaged. Where' the interesting plot? Where's "THE CAKE?"(See what I did there?) You can do waaaay better than this, I clearly can make a better story than you can, that's a sign you didn't try hard enough. Hope to see your next game is way better than this one, because this was nothing short of disappointing. 3.5/10, well-built and nostalgic gameplay with unique concept, but poorly executed with underwhelming story and plot, no developing interest or action from a bunch of characters who lacked any kind of significant development that wouldn't have anybody interested, save for maybe a handful of stupid teenagers who find shit like this "relatable." However, the jokes in the command prompt menu were hilarious. I love dad jokes, and was howling.

The game seems really slow, as in story pace. It also wouldn't let me close the game. I pressed 5 for escape, and it just faded to a black screen with white noise in the background, had to tab out and close it myself. I don't think I would recommend this to any *I* know, personally.

This is an interesting concept of a game. But I gotta say I found some bugs and it was kinda of a let down that it was so short. I kinda wanted to spend more time with the characters than the game let me. I would recomend the purchase since it's so cheap, and it has some interesting concepts that I would like to se developed further in future games.

Enjoy the idea of this a lot but unfortunately pretty buggy. Ran into glitchy dialogue in Chapter 2 that ruined the experience for me (selecting a dialogue option but the response that was typed was completely different and seemed to be from another conversation altogether, derailing the story).

I really enjoyed the game but near the end I got blamed for something I have no idea what the game implies that i did, and then it ended. It's almost as if the game fast tracked to a segment further in the story completely missing what I was supposed to experience, completely destroying whatever enjoyment and immersion i had in this game. Extremely disappointing.

I don't quite know how I feel about this game. Being old enough to have grown up with the evolution of the internet, this game was some hecka nostalgia for me. The premise of the game is fascinating and the potential is there. However, I don't thinK i could really recommend this game in good faith. While the characters all have unique personalities, I think some more testing would have worked out the kinks. At one point the game even got stuck and I had to hit ESC and cancel before it moved on. The biggest for me was selecting dialogue options and what was typed was different than what I had chosen, resulting in a jump to a whole different topic that lost me.
Mia invited me to a 1:1 chat one of the days and gave me all this attitude about not listening to her and then left. It was completely confusing because we had nothing that led up to it. It was random and i'm sure had something to do with my lonely/sad ending?
I may go back to it someday and try again. It was only 99 cents, but it was a very disappointing experience as the game dived deeper.

https://youtu.be/Qd2t3eif5i8 So you've read the description and now you're down here in the comments trying to figure out what's it all about. Click the video above to see some of the gameplay, mechanic and hear my thoughts on the game. Anachronism is a text-based choose your own adventure nostalgia trip from my childhood. The best part of the game for me is the sounds. I am instantly transported back to my childhood listening to the computer boot up, load and start the program. Even the sound of keys being type and system sounds are 100% authentic of times past. A majority of players won't get this feeling having not grown up in the time of 386/486 computer or pre-windows era. The story is both interesting and mysterious. Your friend sends you this chat program and then you're exposed to who knows what... The only two issues that I have with the game are: having to hit a key for each letter that is being typed on the screen. I know that is immerse gameplay to make it feel like you are typing the message yourself; but after tapping a key 30 to 40 times just to move the story a long gets kind of tiring. The second issue I have came in chapter two. I was asked to pick an option and the game jumped to the end of the chapter. I will go back again and pick the other option to see if it happens again. Overall, I highly recommend picking Anachronism up. Since your actions effect and change the story, you can go through it multiple times to see what you can do differently. Mostly it's a big ole nostalgia trip for me and story is very gripping. I cannot wait to see what my choices have done and what shady things await for me in Rembo.
