Attack Of The Mutant Penguins is a very fun and addicting game, popularised by the Angry Video Game Nerd. It is essentially a tower defence game with the addition of playable character who can freely move and attack. The story is light-hearted and the developers clearly wanted to make a fun and humorous game. The game can at first seem complicated, but everything is clearly explained in the manual (which comes with the steam release). The gameplay is simple and fun and the graphics are vibrant and unique. The sound is passable and the music is okay to add atmosphere to the stages. The stages themselves are based on generic environments such as: jungle, desert, icy mountains, horror themed and so on. The names of the stages are normally a play on pop-culture references. There are 20 stages in total and the game can be completed in several hours. Between stages there are minigames which, depending on how well you perform, can assist you on the upcoming stage, so always try to perform well on these. There are three minigames. There are three difficulty settings which can add a degree of replayablility and an endless mode that includes 4 levels. There are also training levels to help new players. This steam release of the game includes both the Jaguar release, and the MSDOS release. The Jaguar port runs poorly, as Jaguar emulation typical does, and it is an inferior port, so I suggest playing the DOS port exclusively. The Jaguar port is missing in-game music and features a few different levels, for those interested. Overall this is a great game and worth the £5 price tag. You should find yourself coming back to this game as it is very fun. 8.5/10 Pros: - Good graphics and sprites - Fun gameplay - Unique story and creative game style Cons: - Average sound
Attack of the Train Apple Turkeys
Yeah. This game is as stupid as it sounds... and that's an honest compliment! Seriously, Attack of the Mutant Penguins is altogether a stupid game, with a stupid name, and even stupider gameplay... and yet still also surprisingly stupidly fun! Attack of the Mutant Penguins is just a weird little hidden gem that's fun for few hours. It’s got a goofy sense of humor, neat mechanics, and a charming and offbeat style that keeps things entertaining. It's such an abstract experience, and its intentionally overly convoluted gameplay loop and rules reminds me of the games me and my friends would come up with on the playground when we were kids. I love that. Overall, it's so unique that it's hard to compare it to anything, best I can say is "ToeJam & Earl"... but even that plays nothing like this game. My only real complaints are that the game can slow down a little when a lot of the penguin orbs are on-screen, and the tutorials always reappear whenever booting the game up again. It’s not perfect; but if you’re into quirky retro games, then this is a fun, lighthearted experience and certainly worthwhile checking out.

If you're gonna spend the $8 on this game, be prepared to beat it all in one sitting. I made it to level 16, saved it, and when I came back the next day I couldn't load the save file. I searched up and down google, YouTube playthroughs, and inquired on many posts. No one seems to know how to load the save file. I even found a PDF of the old user manual and it didn't explain how to do it. One would assume there is a way, given there is a save function. If anyone figures it out let me know. If killing mutant penguins is your thing, I wouldn't recommend doing it this way. It is an interesting take on tower defense games though.

I purposefully look out for weird, obscure games full of personality, so I'm not the best judge, but personally I'm in love with this game's weirdness. If you want new, never done before or after gameplay concepts, give this a shot. If you aren't one for something new, or just can't get past its weirdness, I'd say pass.

This is the weirdest game I've ever played. I mean.. its not BAD if you're drunk or high or something. But how did they come up with this sh#t!? I got it.. I can come up with a game like this: How bout... You're a SHARK! and you gotta shake PALM TREES till TRAINS fall down, and you put the TRAINS in an APPLE and then TURKEYS come and eat the APPLE and then the TURKEYS go up WATERFALLS and to get them down you have to collect MONKEY BUTTS, so you drop the MONKEY BUTTS on POWER LINES and then....BOOOOOOOOSH!
