#Snake2 DK: Reawakening is a game as silly as it is satisfying. While I'm not an absolute whore for bullet hell games, this contribution to the genre gives a nice balance of briefness, challenge, and replayability (through its variety of both gamemodes and achievements), and has certainly captured my attention and praise. There are many things going in favor for this game: the crude, occasionally witty humor appeals to me and undoubtedly others who grew up in the golden age of YouTube Poops and LOLRANDOM humor. The gameplay is fast with no frills, and is extremely simple to control, and yet equally challenging, especially when going for certain achievements. The alternate gamemodes change your playstyle significantly, and the nearly-blank leaderboards this game sports makes for a very easy time dunking on scrubs online with your superior half-baked Snake2 skills! The atmosphere and music featured in this game also enhanced my time playing supremely. The main theme truly emphasizes the supreme terror and power behind you, the snake, demolishing entire cities, grabbing choppers and fighter jets out of the air, using their guns to blow up their military brethren, all the while you consume everything in your path, racking up both length and precious, precious score multiplier in the process. The final boss, the Butt King, has a theme equally as imposing and powerful, proper for a showdown between an unstoppable snake and an immovable ass. The boss's attacks are quite tricky to dodge, as well, reminding me of Touhou and other more conventional bullet hells. And lastly, the credits song, fully voiced and performed as a sing-a-long, is just the perfect way to end a perfect little game. Cute, charming, and quick. Just how it should be. Lastly, this game was priced ridiculously well. For all the content and effort in this (admittedly short) game, its pricetag is but a mere penny to pay for UltimateWalrus's quality game. Hell, that quality even extends to their website, which I found in the game's readme. Seriously, go check it out. I don't think I've ever smiled or been wowed by a website in my entire life as much as I was when I stumbled upon it. Alright, know what? I wanna be serious for a moment. I'm going back and editing this review because I don't think I've seriously described why I like this game enough. Yes, it's memey as hell. That's fine and all, but the core gameplay loop is ultra-tight in a way I happen to really like. The game's laid out in a series of linear stages/waves, not dissimilar from Touhou, where fruits and helicopters fly in. Eat the fruit, grab and shoot the helicopters, kill the boss. Simple stuff. However, unlike literally any other bullet hell I've played, you don't shoot from the same place your hitbox is. Instead, your hand, used to grab helicopters and use them as machine guns, is located on the other side of your body, and you control the head. This disjointedness leads to rather interesting gameplay and makes surviving at higher lengths (and bonus multipliers) more difficult due to the increasing difficulty to aim where you want to. There's several special fruits/consumables on the map too, some of which tied to achievements and others with higher bonuses, so the game definitely incentivizes you to memorize and replay the levels to pursue higher scores, which I can appreciate. Your "bomb" scaling with length also adds extra risk/reward and opportunity to get score, and is especially tactically demanding in Arcade mode. Overall, I like how this game handles. As a Steam Deck owner, I have, of course, also tried the game on Deck. It's... not that good, unfortunately. The controls handle just fine on controller (but sadly, there's no way to move with the D-pad by default) and everything's accessible. I don't have any issues with using the touch screen to select the modes on the launcher/main menu, either. The real experience killer is that the game's framerate TANKS on deck. I have no idea why. The game doesn't even push the Deck's processors to the limit, yet it just slows down to anywhere from 15 to 20 FPS all the time, even when barely any action is happening. It's super saddening, but it's unfortunately a fact of the matter at the moment, and therefore I can't recommend this game on Deck. That said, I do recommend this game to anyone willing to try a more unconventional bullet hell, are nostalgic for something which captures the original snake but stays relevant in the modern era of gaming, or just wants to shove their hand inside of a giant butt and give it an impromptu colonoscopy with high-voltage power. Also, check the friggin' readme in the game files before you start it up. Trust me, it'll make understanding how to play much easier. The game shoots into gameplay right away and doesn't list its controls in-game.

It's super chaotic! Took a while to find out what the controls are but once I did I went destructo mode. If you like explosions and fast paced games, try this one out.

I'm on a journey to play through as many Steam games as possible - in alphabetical order! You can watch my review here: https://youtu.be/Q-ITPJopg58 tl;dr A bullet hell style game that features a snake with a hand. No tutorial, stupidly chaotic, early 2000's style WTFLOLBBQ humour that isn't for everyone, and can be completed in 5 minutes. FYI the controls aren't mentioned in the game, you're thrown right into the action, so here: WASD or arrow keys: Movement Z: Open and close the hand X: Open and close the mouth C: Power Surge You might enjoy this game, you might not - it certainly wasn't for me.

Snake2 has been a long time coming and it is rare for a game like this to deliver so hard and be so excellent. I believe it started development back in 1998 right after Snake released on Nokia phones. For decades I waited, I bought hundreds of gaming magazines over the years in hopes of seeing some kind of update on how it was going or when it would be released. Oh how the developers used to talk it up, "Snake 2 is coming and it will BITE your socks off." Suffice to say: I NEEDED. SNAKE 2. I pre-ordered it right away. But the wait was agonizing. Years passed and I heard nary a peep about Snake 2 development. I became jaded, I felt betrayed, I never thought they would finish it, and if they did finish it there was no way it could live up to the pure vision and bombast of the original. Had I been played like a fool? Was it never coming...? Well, what happened next NO ONE could have seen coming. One day a couple of years ago my nokia phone vibrated in my pocket. That wasn't so odd, it was probably just a call from father. So I reached into my pocket and I pulled out my Nokia and saw something I wasn't used to seeing. The new message icon was flashing in the top left corner.. And peaking out from under the envelope were two little fangs. Could it be? I moved my thumb faster than a speeding bullet over to the control pad to select "Messages" and that's where I saw it. "Coming Soon" That's all it said. That's all I needed. And so I waited. Well baby, it's finally here. And it's snake like you've never seen him before. With graphics... well with graphics I could have only dreamed of!!!!!! Jake Kaufman's unbeatable score gets my COLD BLOOD pumping through my veins and sends me into hyperdrive as I weave through buildings, helicopters, and bullets with the grace of a gazelle. It truly is the natural evolution of classic Snake gameplay: more enemies, more fruits, more bullets, more hands, more machine guns, more butts. I haven't beaten the game yet, but when I do it will be the culmination of my entire existence. UltimateWalrus does it again. 5 stars. And Snake has quite a pretty face, I might add!
