I loved this one. Simple, clean, nice maps, funny bosses. Nothing too special, so don't expect the world. Just buy this during a sale and enjoy 1.5-2 hours of solid fun with simple mechanics.

It's pretty decent for a first/beginner metroidvania, but other than that I wouldn't recommend it. It was the first metroidvania I played, and I lost interest after I was having trouble with one of the bosses since I didn't know about the health upgrades. after getting more accustomed to the genre with other games, I managed to 100% this game in around an hour 45 minutes. Other than the pixel art, the only thing I really liked was how challenging the lategame bosses were, even though I only died around 55 times.

Generally speaking this game is what I expected it to be. It is a cute side scrolling 2D adventure. It is fun, fast paced, and the animation style is really cute. my biggest issue is the first boss and the final map being confusing and hard to follow. The first boss is this giant tomato, you can see in the trailer. He is incredibly hard in comparison to the other bosses which all have a sort of method of defeating them. His method is present but it is incredibly hard in comparison to the others in the game. The final 15% of the game is also rather confusing. You basically have to open up 2 doorways to unlock the door to the final boss. The issue comes with the way you have to go about opening these 2 final doors. There is no pop up or scene to show you when you have successfully done it and I wound up circling around the level for around 30 minutes before I simply quit and decided not to finish the game. Maybe a better designed map or something to let the player know where to go within the level would help with this confusion. All in all the game is worth the $4.99 ($3.99 on sale currently) it just has a few things I would change to make the game more enjoyable.

Despite the metroidvania tag and the presence of a map and power-ups, the progression is completely linear. It doesn't involve any exploration nor difficulty. The tougher challenge I've encountered was figuring out the actual hitbox of the spikes. All enemies and bosses are uninspired and easily predictable, if not soulless blobs, more of a bother than anything. It took me two hours to 100% the game. All in all, there's nothing of interest beyond the graphics and music, which are beautiful and the main appeal of the game I'd say. But if you scroll through the developer's games, you'll see these assets and effects are reused in all their games over and over, 4€ or 5€ each game. It feels deceiving to make you pay for a generic copy-paste platformer that lacks any polish, depth or content disguised as a “mini metroidvania”. Even if the developer were doing their best with no dishonest intentions, the price would still be excessive. Please keep your money.
