After 13.1 hours and two endings i can safely say this game is fantastic! I wont go into spoilers but i will say i love the writing and the way the story shifts and changes with your decisions, and there is enough depth and uncertainty to make me want to play again, do things differently, and see how else the writers will surprise me.
10/10 strongly reccomended and im not just saying that because im a simp for Vampire stories!
....I am required to inform anyone reading this that I am in fact a simp for Vampire stories...but this is a really good one and has kept me up for the last two days just as sure as any novel!
Also, the ending with all the twists? Chef's kiss. fun the whole time seriously, to the writers, thank you very much for this I am having so much frikkin fun.

For all its fun moments, great concepts and occasionally engaging storytelling, the game feels both overly ambitious and unfinished.
It lures you in with the promise of playing a character who can actually shape the lives of the people around him, but despite some occasional (and very enjoyable) segments where this actually feels true, most of the resulting narrative feels incredibly constrained and railroaded, especially in the later parts of the story. Of course, this being a CYOA-type game, it is a given that the creators cannot think of every possible action the player might take; but the plot can nonetheless be shaped in ways to at least give the illusion that the player is in control of the story. Unfortunately, the writers were simply too ambitious here, which resulted in denouements where I felt so detached about the events that were supposedly taking place because of my choices, that I merely skimmed through some of the text in disappointment, waiting for the whole thing to end. The readers no longer caring about your story is the worst thing that can happen to a storyteller.
To be a bit more specific without going into spoilers: being the regent of the city tended to work great. I was genuinely sad when I ran out of things to do in the Auditorium, for example. But all the other complex global conspiracies? Maybe they would have been better off in a sequel.
Add to this a rather... spartan user interface and a broken save system (you may seem to have three saves, but saving to any one of them also overwrites the others), which is especially sad when you consider that this game has been out for quite a while now, and especially frustrating for a story where you really do want to backtrack on occasion. (Thankfully you can back up the save data folder manually from the Steam directory if you turn off cloud saves.) It gives me the feeling, overall, that the game was left in an unfinished state, sadly abandoned by its creators.
Is it still great fun at places? Yes. Does it still have great potential? There's no denying it. But in its present state, I still cannot recommend it with a clear conscience.

I'm a fan of text-based games and enjoy most of Hosted Games offerings, but not this one. Maybe I chose the wrong alternatives, but I found it boring and the characters unappealing. Your mileage may well vary depending on your tastes. I would suggest trying the demo first, as it appears a boss vampire's life is not all blood sucking and boss fights, its got more in common with a government worker in an uninteresting job. I suspect that world-building/business-sim is not my cup of tea. I have no idea if there is a story line here, I simply did not have enough interest to find out.

Another story that was surprisingly better than I thought it would be when I purchased it!
It starts off a bit slow and stark, and I found myself struggling to get into any kind of "story" feel with it. For the first hour or so i was just making random choices, trying to figure out where the story line was. What was being asked of me to do? But as I continued to make random choices, bits and pieces did start to come together and before I knew it there was a plot, mysteries to figure out, meaningful choices to make.
By the end of it I was making choices I never even considered an hour before. Plot twist after plot twist, and when I got to the end I chose, I still didnt know if I had made the right choice, or even If i was happy with the outcomes (to be fair I was informed that "I would be told how this story ends.... but that was the end lol.) My final choice was left without an explanation as to what I had achieved, other than it being reported that it was sucessful in the fact that I was still "alive."... maybe a lead into another book? I dont know but I hope so! Because I want to know lol!
All in all I think you will find alot of enjoyable reading time filled with alot of important decisions and interesting characters to interact with. I feel like I only scratched the surface on this first play through, and after I take some time to think about it, Im sure Im going to dive back in for more.

do i recommend the game yes BUT.........
the writing is good but not having a save option that actually works fucks this game over big time. since even if you have super stats and choice logic. one wrong choice at the wrong time ends your game. and then you have to start over.
completely.
you can't even go back to the saves you made before the story chapters. in my case i played it once in demo without cheats and completed the game then bought later to play ageing after i pretty much forget the plot. that time i used cheats for a stress free play through doing what i wanted since the main strength of the game is the writing. Que random story fight.
i had 130 stats in everything and i did save before in-case of bullshit. basically i win the story fight of course since my character is OP. Que stupid suicide by character i fought. of course just running away would be the choice that saves you to live another day. yet there is 3 other choices one of them being grab grenade and pin it again to stop suicide. and capture the character you fought. seems smart in lore and roll-play vise. also kills your character no take backs after 3 to 4 hours of game play. sorry that is just bad game design. and really makes an other vise very engaging game really irritating.
i feel that the problem with a lot of chose your own adventure games with a lot of gameplay elements and stat grinding is not having a good save system.
having more gameplay should equal a solid save system if the game is longer the 30 mins
also i actually really like the more gameplay heavy games like this one its why i played it again and why most of my favorite choice of games have a lot of gameplay and stats to them

My first and only review because I'm so angry.
The broken save system ruined a game which i had really enjoyed. Effectively I lost four hours gameplay with one decision. A decision I only made because I believed the save/load system would work.

Very awesome and well made character driven secret society manager
It's still a CYOA or Choose your own adventure game but it's so well done and has the bonus of actually immersing you as a
leader of a secret society (of vampires)
Depending on what/how you do with your society (and your character of course) you get a number of different endings and they are very cool indeed
The game is quite long and enjoyable for such a cheap price with many events and things to do. Very replayable.
Of course it's finite but it's very long so it'll be a while before you finish.
Even with the length of such a work, it doesn't lose any enjoyability within the intensity, suspense, roleplay, etc. precisely because it takes the time to lay out the scene, plot, and setting to (as stated before) immerse you in your secret society building.
9 out of 10 highly recommend and would play again

It was really fun to play a character that starts at the top for a change and doesn't begin as some bottom feeder. It took about 11 hours to finish a play through. You are faced with many leadership decisions where you can solve problems through resources and delegation but can easily get your hands dirty and take care of things personally too. Of course you have to be careful who you trust. There's one creative scenario in particular where you hand pick a team so you really have to be strategic about people's strengths and weaknesses.
This game was a fresh take on an ancient struggle and I really enjoyed it.. It's not the World of Darkness but White Wolf fans will feel right at home. I wish some plot points had been fleshed out better and the ending was very straightforward but there were some surprising and exciting plot twists along the way that kept me flipping pages.
I felt that my bloodkin (or vampire clan) made a difference to the story and that my character did and saw things significantly differently because of it. I could see playing again as a different bloodkin to have a new experience. I felt like my choices mattered and there were a couple of times that I thought I barely escaped death because of them. I got involved in a satisfying romance too but it was definitely not center stage. Overall I give it 8/10 because I wasn't out to buy literature. I wanted an exciting game. This was fun and immersive with engaging characters. If you have a World of Darkness itch this will scratch it.

I wasn't expecting much from this one, but I was pleasantly surprised. I actually liked this book more than the official CoG WoD games: Night Road and Out for Blood. Granted, this is a stand alone IP and not constrained by the official licence and everything that comes with it, but not every author can utilize the creative freedom to its full potential. Morton Newberry & Lucas Zaper did a good job in this aspect.
Vampire Regent will feel familiar to fans of WoD as it's very WoD-like world at it's core, yet it's not constrained by WoD lore, so the authors were able to take a few "creative freedoms" here and there. On one hand it made the novel accessible to new fans who are unfamiliar with WoD lore, on the other - some moments and confrontations were made more "spectacular" than it was possible in constraints of WoD system.
The novel has high replayability with plenty of side content and several endings. At a current price of just 5$, it's definitely worth a buy.
