Playtime: 395 minutes
Normally, I'll finish a game even if I really don't like it. But I just hate this game too much to slog through it. My playtime seems long because I was playing it in Polish for practice, but it's not even worth it for the Polish lesson. There are lots of better games in Polish. I played Parts 1 and 2 and enjoyed them. Part 3 was just a monumental disappointment. First of all, I think the decision to essentially split this into two stories, one from Jack's POV and one from Karen's, was bad. Basically, instead of getting one polished story, we get two half-assed ones. And they seem to be practically the same anyway, so it's not even interesting to get the different perspectives. I would've preferred a story from Natalie's or Hope's perspective or something. Choices seem like an illusion. Most of the time it's just "the right option" or "death." When you die, go back to the title screen and start over again. Oh wow, cool, that's fun. They got rid of the sensible design choice they had in Part 2 where you could resume again from just before you died. Also, this game is bizarrely laggy at times, and for some reason, even though it has no voice acting and consists entirely of 2D art with minimal animation, the game is 11GB!? Wtf are you guys even doing, devs? And on the note of animation, the characters blink just about every damn second. It's weird and annoying. Anyway, what really kills the game is the terrible story and writing. It's clear the devs just wanted to be done with this series. And golly gee willikers, I wonder whether the devs like Jack or Karen more. It sure is hard to tell. Seriously, beyond just generally treating Jack like a bumbling alcoholic idiot and Karen like a badass ✨strong independent woman✨, Karen's story is a lot more fleshed out, even in the parts that are the exactly the same as Jack's story. The devs' blatant infatuation with Karen just makes me despise her. Also, Karen, Bob, Roger? Did I just walk into Boomerville, or who the hell is naming these characters? I have way too much patience for bad games. It's rare I don't finish one. So... congrats, I guess, devs?
